A TV source told the Mirror: ‘Things can change quickly in camp, especially if someone was to quit, but at the moment we look all set for evictions to begin from Friday.

‘Currently Charlene, Scarlette and Matt are the favourites to go with bookmakers. If there is a second eviction over the weekend it means there would be two chances for viewers to get Hancock out this week.

‘So much has been made of him wanting to look human and how he told the group in camp that he wants our forgiveness. We will find out soon if some people forgive him AND if they are willing to vote to save him and keep his jungle journey going.’

The longer episode on Friday would give an evictee the chance to speak to show hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly as they exit.

Prior to the pandemic, when the series was filmed in Wales, the last three seasons held in Australia saw the first star leave on the Friday of the second week.

It comes after programme viewers claimed Ant and Dec were miffed after Matt was voted to do his sixth consecutive Bushtucker Trial on Sunday.

Presenter Ant groaned ‘not again’ after the news was announced, as members of the television audience at home took to Twitter to complain the MP for West Suffolk doing all the trials since his arrival on Wednesday.

Dec asked: ‘Another one?!’, while Ant declared: ‘Not again!’. and one person wrote on social media: ‘Ant and Dec are fed up of Matt doing the trials.’

Matt – who served as the UK’s health secretary during the COVID-19 pandemic – is controversially appearing as a contestant on the ITV jungle survival show and has been chosen by the public once again to face unpleasantries to earn meals for camp in Deserted Down Under, which will air on Monday.

After Ant and Dec made the announcement, Matt’s campmates were seen laughing while he sighed: “Brilliant! What is Deserted Down Under then?”

Show viewers took to social media site Twitter to vent their frustration at Matt being tasked with competing in yet another challenge.

One person wrote: ‘Let me guess we will vote tomorrow and Matt will get the trial for Tuesday what’s the point in having a voting button because I’ve never voted for Matt it’s getting BORINGGGGG what a let down this year, get Boy George and Sue Cleaver, and Chris to do a trial, they slag Matt off enough!’

Another person shared: ‘Can people please stop voting Matt Hancock for every trial. Not only is it boring and unfair to other campmates, but also, giving him the maximum amount of screen-time is doing exactly what he wants and potentially making more people see him in a better light/sympathise with him.’

‘Matt Hancock is putting a great deal of effort into the jungle trials, begging the question as to why he’s not at home applying the same energy into the job he is supposed to be doing as MP (the role he’s AWOL from),’ someone else summised.

Another viewer shared: ‘Why can the public not see that it would be more entertaining to vote some of the weak snowflakes to do a trial. Let’s see the likes of George, Charlene or Sue (that’s if she’s not exempt).’

While another person tweeted: ‘Every year the same person does the trials in the early stages. It gets a bit boring. Particularly as Matt Hancock isn’t that entertaining in the trials and he does pretty well in them. Change the format #imacelebrity.’

‘How stupid are the people voting @MattHancock to do the trials,’ on viewer asked. ‘He’s a success the majority of the time unless teamed with Owen. You are giving Matt all the TV time. My opinion of him has changed massively. He has become one of my faves.’

Earlier in the show, Matt managed to win a total of nine stars – which equalled nine meals for camp – when he took part in the House of Horrors trial, which saw him battling against pigeons and snakes, and wading through offal in a giant doll’s house.

After his triumph in the trial, it was revealed that Matt and former rugby player Mike Tindall had been selected by the public to go head-to-head in a battle to become camp leader, with Matt selecting journalist Charlene White to be his deputy and Mike selecting Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver.

The leadership contest involved each respective pair working together in their teams to see who could turn on a sequence-based wall of lights the fastest directed by the women, who were being covered in slime.

Prior to taking part, Mike joked: ‘It only dawned on me about 35 seconds ago that if I went home and I had lost to Matt Hancock, I would be in so much s***.’

Following Matt’s victory, Charlene joked that she was ‘super, super proud’ of Matt for finally winning a leadership contest, while Mike claimed he was ‘devastated’ to have been beaten by the Conservative MP.

As camp leaders, Matt and Loose Women anchor Charlene no longer have to carry out camp duties and instead focus on delegating tasks and can spend their nights sleeping indoors in the camper van, while Matt has been assigned his own regal red chair for exclusive use.

Reflecting in The Bush Telegraph, ITV newsreader Charlene – who was later seen finding it difficult to stay in the RV due to a spider – joked that she would never have believed she would ever find herself rooming with Matt.

She said: ‘No one could ever have made me believe that by the end of the year I would be sharing a room with Matt Hancock, so…it’s all a journey!’
