Influencer reveals what hair extensions REALLY do to your hair as she is forced to chop her locks off after just a few months of use
Australian influencer Cartia Mallan has spent years growing out her hair but ruined her growth after using permanent hair extensions for just a few months.
The TikTok user shared her woes to the platform on Thursday with several videos documenting the process of losing all her hair as she had to cut it into a bob.
She said she had a ‘freak out’ when she removed her extensions after just a few months to discover most of her hair had been ripped out and became ‘ratty’.

‘I had been growing it for years and years and years and it was getting really healthy and it was in such a good place,’ she said in her video.
‘And then I was like I want my hair to be longer, I just want to switch it up. So I was like, “You know what, I’m just going to get hair extensions for like a month or two.”
‘So I put in these really long hair extensions. Then it came time to get them removed and I have had a literal heart attack freak out because I have no hair left.’

Mallan proceeded to show footage of her original long hair looking shiny and thick before revealing her hair extensions which provided an extra hand’s length of hair.
She then shocked her followers by pulling out her ponytail and revealing how damaged and thin her hair had become since removing the extensions.
‘Look how thin my hair is now. It’s all been ripped out and completely destroyed. I literally have no options besides to cut my hair into a bob,’ she said.

She continued: ‘There is nothing in the world I fear more than having to cut my hair short. Like I am obsessed with long hair.
‘But my hair, now, it makes me actually want to cry at how fine and thin and just – it’s just ratty. It’s ratty.’
Mallan went on to warn women away from hair extensions if they want to grow their hair long and thick or already have damaged hair, saying she’ll never get permanent hair extensions again.

The brunette beauty posted two follow-up videos that day.
The second showed her in the salon as the hairdresser cut a huge chunk of her hair off.
In the final video, her new hairstyle was revealed – a long, thick bob which framed her genetically blessed features beautifully.
