On Friday the 19-year-old entertainer took to TikTok to clarify her statement and address scrutiny from fans.
Speaking into the camera with a tie-dye hoodie over her head she said, ‘I never said that ‘lesbian’ was a dirty word.’

In the interview with the publication the former Dance Moms star said, ‘I don’t like the word itself. It’s just like a lot. But I mean, at the end of the day, that’s what I am.’
She compared it to the word ‘moist,’ which some people don’t like because of the way it sounds phonetically.
‘It’s like the word moist. It’s just like… ugh!’ she added, much to the dismay of some of her followers.
Misunderstanding the media sensation, some interpreted her comments to mean that the word has a negative connotation.

‘I never would say that it’s a dirty word because it is not. It’s not a bad word, it’s not a slur, it’s especially not a word that I am ashamed of saying or ashamed of identifying as by any means,’ she emphasized.
The the blonde dancer added, ‘I don’t hate the word lesbian, whenever someone talks to me about my sexuality I just say that I’m gay.
‘It’s not the word that flows off the tongue for me, if that makes sense.’
One person came to her defense, writing online, ‘I’m sorry that people are trying to cancel you for not liking the sound of a word.’
JoJo used it as an example as she noted, ‘That’s exactly it! I don’t hate the word lesbian.’

In the past week Siwa also caught flack for naming Candace Cameron Bure when asked who was ‘the rudest celebrity’ she’d met.
In a video shared by Page Six, the entrepreneur explained, ‘I had a rough experience when I was little.
‘I was eleven, and I was a big, big fan, and I wanted to take a picture with her, and it wasn’t a good time for her.’
She continued, ‘And I was okay with that, but then I turned around, and when I looked back, she was taking pictures with other kids. And that’s what made me really, really upset.’

Bure, who is a devout Christian, admitted that the teen’s story ‘broke her heart,’ and revealed that she offered an apology to Siwa, telling her: ‘I broke your eleven-year-old heart. Please know that as a mom that it breaks my heart that I made you feel that way.’
Bure later revealed she called Siwa over the matter and added that Siwa told her she never intended for the video to go viral and that she actually thought Bure was a nice person.
JoJo corroborated the statement as she told Page Six, ‘We had about a ten-minute conversation, and it was sweet. She apologized, and we talked. It was cool. It was nice.’
