Jonnie Irwin, 48, has taken to Instagram today to share an update with his followers while detailing his “night in pain” due to his terminal lung cancer. The former A Place in the Sun presenter didn’t let his “horrible” night’s sleep get in his way as he tried to enjoy nature, as he shared his “determination” to enjoy the “company and the weather”.
I’m grateful for the window!

Jonnie took to Instagram to share a short video earlier today in view of his 140,000 followers as he could be seen with a bicycle helmet on in the sunshine.
Speaking to the camera, he revealed: “Well, after a terrible night’s sleep. I was up and down getting painkillers, it was just horrible.
“I have woken up and it’s a beautiful day so I’ve got a steroid inside me, some more painkillers because I’m determined to make the most of this.”
He then panned the camera to show a lake as he continued to fill himself with the “beautiful day”.
Jonnie also shared a separate post showing pictures of his walk, showing a lake as well as several boats.
He captioned the post: “After a horrid night in pain I dosed up on PK’s and was able to enjoy the beautiful Lakes via E-mtb.
“I’ll probably pay for it later but I’m grateful for the window, the company and the weather. Only my second time hired one machine but I’m hooked! #thelakes.”
Many social media users took to the comments to wish the presenter good health during his cancer journey.
Ber.odonoghue said: “In my thoughts and prayers. You are an amazing human being. Keep fighting, we are all with you.”
Sue1084 added: “Please ease this lovely man and his family from too much pain. I know it’s too much to ask but I want to see more pictures. Stay strong Mr Jonnie.”
RitaMoore1667 commented: “May you experience moments of respite from the pain while soaking in precious moments with your kids and wife.
“You continue to be in our hearts and awareness Jonnie as you’re going through this time as is your family.”
This comes as Jonnie admits that he is struggling to come to terms with the reality that this “could be” his last Christmas due to his lung cancer spreading to his brain.
In a new interview, Jonnie said he “wants to be here as long” as possible.
He said: “I’d be lying if I didn’t say that Christmas will be tricky.
“I’m not saying this will be my last one because I don’t know for certain. I want to be here as long as I can, but it could be.
“I want to enjoy it and just spend time with Jess and the kids.”
Jonnie has been married to his wife Jess since 2016 and they share three children: three-year-old Rex and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
The twins were just one month old when Jonnie was diagnosed in 2020.
Recalling the heartbreaking moment he received the tragic news, Jonnie continued to the Sun: “I couldn’t believe it was happening.
“Initially this thing just happens to you but as soon as your mind gets over the shock, it’s ‘what about my wife and kids’ and that stays with you. It doesn’t go away.”
