Jonnie Irwin hits out at the BBC over ’embarrassing’ Wimbledon change in rant
Rain stops play on second day of Wimbledon
Jonnie Irwin hit out at the BBC, who are usually “faultless” when it comes to covering Wimbledon, but claimed it felt like cutbacks had been made.
The Escape to the Country presenter took to Twitter yesterday (July 3) and questioned what happened to the BBC programme, Today at Wimbledon.
He tweeted: “What’s happened to Today at Wimbledon? @clarebalding is faultless as ever but where is the live roundup?
“The space themed round-up was embarrassing & navigating the @BBCiPlayer looking for a certain match is impossible.”
Jonnie added: “I’m a big supporter of the beeb but this feels cut price.”

In a follow-up message, he told his 25,000 followers: “Partridge rant over. This country..!”
Social media users reacted to his post, as one person commented: “Agree, iPlayer doesn’t show what match it is.”
Another agreed: “Just caught up on Today at Wimbledon and I miss the old format, with full-on analysis and discussion between the presenter and two former pros. It was the tennis equivalent of Match of the Day. Sometimes, if it isn’t broken…”
A third wrote: “Totally agree about Wimbledon coverage, and where was John McEnroe? ‘you cannot be serious’ if he is not part of the coverage.”

A fourth added: “I totally agree with your statement having gone to the iplayer to click on the match of my preference simply got a message saying there was a problem with the page and to try again I still believe the old adage if it isn’t broken don’t fix it.”
Today at Wimbledon aired in 2022 and was fronted by Clare Balding, who delivered a round-up of the best action from the various tennis matches that had taken place throughout the day.
Clare has since taken over the main hosting duties from national treasure Sue Barker, who retired last year after fronting the BBC’s Wimbledon main programming since 2000.
The presenter said she was “honoured” to take up the role and said Sue had been completely supportive of her taking up the position.
The BBC had previously stated that Today at Wimbledon was cancelled and would be incorporated into their usual coverage.
A statement from a BBC spokesperson sent to RadioTimes.com in March, reads: “We are not cancelling the highlights programme. Our full broadcast plans will be revealed in due course.”
Express.co.uk have contacted the BBC for comment.
Wimbledon kicked off on Monday and is set to carry on for two weeks until Sunday, July 16.
