Kanye West Refuses to Apologize for Selling Yeezy Gap Collection in Trash Bags
The 45-year-old rapper/fashion designer previously came under fire after one Twitter user posted a photo of the multiple stuffed bags on the floor of one Gap store.
AceShowbiz –Kanye West believes he did nothing wrong in his latest creative endeavors. Despite facing backlash for selling his new Yeezy Gap collection in trash bags, the “N***as in Paris” hitmaker refused to apologize.
The 45-year-old rapper/fashion designer addressed the criticism in an interview that aired on “Fox & Friends” Thursday, August 18. “I’m an innovator, and I’m not here to sit up and apologize about my ideas,” he said.
“That’s exactly what the media tries to do,” the ex-husband of Kim Kardashian further shared. “Make us apologize for any idea that doesn’t fall under exactly the way they want us to think.”
“I’m up here literally working on homeless shelters. There’s documentation of it where the city came and tore down my creations while I was doing it,” the father of four continued. “So no one can tell me I’m insensitive when that stuff that I think about every single day and actually have put my mind and innovation to.”
Kanye came under fire after one Twitter user posted a photo of the multiple stuffed bags on the floor of one Gap store. “This is how they are selling Yeezy GAP. The sales associate said Ye got mad when he saw they had it on hangers and this is how he wanted it,” so read the August 16 tweet. “They won’t help you find ur size too, you just have to just dig through everything.”
Before the display made headlines, Ye took to Instagram to seemingly reveal that the campaign was inspired by the homeless. “Look to the children. Look to the homeless. As the biggest inspiration for all design,” he captioned his August 12 post.
However, that didn’t stop fans and critics from sharing some backlash and jokes. “Kanye got people thrifting at Gap,” one Twitter user reacted. “Workin at Yeezy Gap is gonna be Hell,” another shared.
A third wrote, “Saw this s**t at Gap in Houston. As a former visuals manager I can say this would make me quit my job if I were still on the visuals team,” and a fourth mentioned that “Kanye literally worked at The Gap. He knows what he’s doing to those employees.”
