Karren Brady accused of 'breaking BBC rules while promoting clothes'
The Apprentice’s Karren Brady is accused of ‘breaking BBC guidelines for sharing details of her boardroom fashion online’
Karren Brady has come under scrutiny as she was accused of breaking BBC guidelines.
The businesswoman, 53, often looks glamorous as she appears alongside Lord Sugar as his aide and confident on business TV contest The Apprentice.
But as the show airs, she has been taking to Instagram to show some love to the brands that she can be seen donning on-screen – prompting some to believe that this was a breach of BBC guidelines.
Stating that on-air talent shouldn’t promote products or clothes that they wear on-air, it was reported by The Mirror that she could have been breaking this.
Denying this is the case, a spokesperson for the show told the publication: ‘Karren has not benefitted financially from her social media posts and has not breached BBC editorial guidelines’.
Scrutiny: The Apprentice’s Karren Brady was accused of breaking BBC guidelines this week as she was thought to be promoting outfits from the show online
Karren often takes to Instagram to share her chic ensembles with her 166K followers, tagging brands such as Reiss, Massimo Dutti, Me + Em and Safiyaa for her outfit credit.
While clothing brand Phoebe Grace shared a grab of her on the show as they noted that she was wearing a heart-printed shirt on the show.
The brand gushed over the connection while Karren noted that she has had ‘so many compliments on it’.
Section 15.3.36 of the BBC guidelines state: ‘No on-air talent should promote products, goods, services or clothing they use on air’.
But a source confirmed to The Mirror that Karren wasn’t promoting her outfits, just ‘providing information’ on them.
They shared: ‘If brands are using social pictures of Karren, or if they were to screenshot pictures from the show, this is in no way affiliated with Karren nor done with her permission.
‘In no way is she advertising or promoting brands and is not in breach of BBC editorial guidelines – this has been confirmed to us by BBC Editorial Policy. If it was an ad she would have to make that clear in her posts.’
MailOnline has reached out to the BBC for comment.

Karren stars alongside Tim Campbell in The Apprentice as they help Lord Alan Sugar with his search for a business partner.
She was seen during Thursday night’s episode, where candidates were tasked with hosting immersive events in Shropshire and had to sell tickets, book entertainment and organise food and drink for their guests, and the team producing the biggest profit wins.
But unable to make enough profit to win the task was project manager Mark Moseley, who was the latest candidate to be axed from the show.
Karren wasn’t impressed watching the team negotiate during the challenge, interjecting during the boardroom chat to advise Lord Sugar of what REALLY went on during the challenge.
Speaking about his firing since leaving the process, Mark said: ‘I’m quite happy, I made it to the top ten and that’s the main thing. I had a good time and met some fantastic people. I’m still sad to go, I would have liked to make it to the interview stage but that’s life.’
