Kerry Katona says people still think she’s on drugs because of her ADHD
Kerry Katona has admitted that some people "still think she's on drugs" because of how attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects her.
Writing in her column, Kerry, 42, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2005, discussed her own experiences after former TOWIE star Tommy Mallet opened up about his diagnosis.
She admitted that ADHD makes her "go about a million mile an hour" and that she struggles to switch off.
"Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallet have admitted they almost split before an ultimatum led to Tommy getting an ADHD diagnosis. I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2005 and my son Max also has it, so I understand how difficult it can be," Kerry began.
"It makes me go about a million miles an hour and I think some people still think I’m on drugs because of it! I also find it difficult to switch off, especially at night. I can’t remember the last time I had a good night’s sleep."
The former Atomic Kitten star, who joked she wants fiancé Ryan to dump her as he makes her ‘"fat", continued: "I think there needs to be more awareness around ADHD. I know it can be difficult to get an official diagnosis and find some help. It’s good to see Tommy talking openly about it."
Kerry also has bipolar disorder and has openly shared her battles with mental health. Back in 2019, she admitted that cocaine used to be her "best friend" as she discussed her past drug abuse.
She told the Mirror: 'It wasn't so much that I was an addict, more that I binged. It got to the point I was so lonely, so empty. Cocaine was my best friend. It was always there for me when I was down."
Meanwhile, Kerry has also previously discussed how her son Max, 14, struggles with ADHD.
She told OK! how he smashed up his bedroom while in a rage during lockdown.
“Last week he smashed up his bedroom out of sheer frustration. He screams and cries and I find it incredibly difficult to deal with – that’s my little boy, after all," she said.
"I’m sure any mums out there facing similar problems can understand where I’m coming from.
“Our routines have gone out the window and I think Max is really struggling to deal with everything – as I am!”
Kerry, also mum to Molly, 21, Lilly, 19, Heidi, 15, and DJ, eight, added: “I just want him to feel better, but it’s hard work right now.”
