Louise Minchin suffers nasty fall weeks before marathon
Louise Minchin admits she feels “like an absolute idiot” after falling over during a recent training session for the London Marathon, leaving her with a bruised knee, elbow and ego.
After competing in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2021, the 54-year-old had endured “terrifying” challenges in which cockroaches and mealworms were poured over her, and once even braved a plank walk perilously perched 250 metres above a lake.
In comparison to that, a fall on British terrain must have seemed like child’s play for the sporty star.
However, the former BBC Breakfast host lamented to her Instagram 133,000 followers that she was “sore” and slightly embarrassed.
On Wednesday morning, she published a video update on her condition during a run she was taking, while her dog watched her attentively.

“I really appreciate [all the messages of support] because I felt like an absolute idiot,” the star, who was dressed in a bright blue Nike sweatshirt for the occasion, told fans.
She triumphantly added: “I’ve got a really bruised knee and cut elbow, but thanks to all of your support, I’m back running!”
On the day of the fall, she had also vented her frustrations on Instagram, admitting: “It was all going so well today, one of the last longish runs before the @londonmarathon, sun was out, smiles were out and then I took a tumble. Ouch ouch!”
“I am bruised, but nothing terrible, just feel like an idiot and I have a sore knee and elbow. Thanks for the cyclist who stopped to see if I was OK and who gave me the encouragement to get up and carry on.
“Respect to all those fellow runners out there, with three weeks to go- it feels hard right now.”
She added in conclusion: “Take care and keep running if you can even when you fall over, these hard miles all count.”
Followers comforted her with their own embarrassing tales of trackside falls and falling over their “own feet”, as part of a deluge of supportive responses.
@yvonneawaller had a tip for her, explaining: “One of the things we seldom learn is how to fall. It is an important skill. If you have any physio or strength and conditioning friends ask them to teach you. It will save you from breaks later on.”
@franceshooper chuckled: “I trip over my own feet regularly….it’s usually my elbows that suffer most. But three weeks to go, you’ll be fine! Nearly there!”
Then @themenopausemedic chimed in: “Well done for dusting yourself back off again. Those long training runs are hard enough without a fall!”
