Love Island star unveils sneaky way singletons can talk in secret in villa
Former Love Island star Billy Brown has revealed the secret way that Islanders can talk to each other whilst they're in the villa.
Islanders are filmed 24 hours a day whilst on the show, with each day being condensed by producers into an hour which is shown on ITV.
But if the singletons want to have a conversation with each other without all being revealed to the public, they can message each other on their Love Island phones, which are used for the famous "I've got a text" line, when the producers want to inform them of something, such as a recoupling or the entrance of a new bombshell.
Speaking to the Daily Star, 23 year old Billy, who was on Love Island in 2022, said: "So, with your phone, basically no one messages anyone in there, ever, it just didn't happen.
"You just get a little bling off the producer and you say 'I've got a text'.
"But we didn't ever text each other – we just talked to each other in person – but saying that, it would have been a good idea if you wanted it to be a secret and didn't want anything aired. It would definitely be a good way around it – that's a good idea actually."
Billy explained how the Islanders use their Love Island phones to take snaps, which ITV often post online to Instagram.
He also revealed that he and his fellow Islanders "were trying so many different things to hack into the phones to use the internet but it wasn't happening".
Billy said that he "loved not having a proper phone" whilst he was in the villa – all Islanders phones are taken from them before they enter the villa – as he also said that he "didn't touch" his phone for two days after leaving the show.
Before the series that is on TV now, Islanders used to have a friend or relative taking over their social media accounts to post whilst they are in the villa, however, for the first time ever, ITV put a ban on any social media posts during their show stint.
New safety protocols include contestants having training into spotting coercive and controlling behaviour as well as their Instagram accounts remaining dormant.
Nothing will be published on their behalf as a result of this new measure.
Billy discussed this new measure, as he said that he was "not sure if that's fair" that they have their right to have people post on their behalf whilst in the villa.
He said: "It's a good way of getting who you are across to your fans and if you can't have that they're never going to know you until you're out."
