Love Islands Adam Collard reveals ITV had to hire him a bodyguard after last show stint
Love Island's Adam Collard has revealed that ITV had to hire a bodyguard to protect him after his last stint on the show in 2018.
The 26 year old hunk is back in the villa for this year's series – the first time ever an ex-Love Island contestant has returned to the show.
His appearance on season 4 of Love Island, alongside the likes of Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer, drew him a lot of criticism from audiences for 'gaslighting', and an argument with Rosie Williams even led Women's Aid to warn ITV of abusive relationships.
Speaking about the necessary hiring of the bodyguard, Adam said: "ITV gave us a bodyguard for like for the first week because there was some women who weren’t happy with some of the stuff I did in there. So when I got out it was just nuts, a crazy crazy experience.
"I definitely thought, ‘What if this doesn’t stop, like what if people think this forever,' – as in the bad boy thing, like he does what he wants.”
In an interview with Muscle Food, he admitted that his behaviour in the villa wasn't entirely "him" and that his family noticed it.
He said: “My family, it was probably harder for them. Even my dad said to me he could tell that the way I was being wasn't all me.
“So even he said it was nothing like my personality the way I dealt with things.
“I was definitely worried about people's opinions not changing until I went onto a few talk shows and then people started to understand the crack a bit more.”
Adam's entrance to the latest series of Love Island hasn't been without its drama, after Jacques O'Neill, 23, got irate when Gemma Owen, 19, told him that Adam had called him "immature".
Less than 24 hours later, Jacques announced that he was leaving the villa and the show, after a heartbreaking and tearful conversation with his on-off partner, Paige Thorne, 24.
On Tuesday night's episode of Love Island Jacques told Paige he was leaving and as the pair sat outside on the balcony, both looked on the edge of tears as Jacques said: "You mean the world to me, you know that?
"I just wish I could finish my journey off in here with you but I'm gonna go home today…"
Paige said that she didn't want him to go but she wanted him to be happy.
Adam and Jacques shared a hug after he announced to the Islanders that he was leaving, with the pair amicable, however Adam was left asking the other Islanders if Jacques was leaving because of him.
Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
