Love Island’s Luca signs to football team after going official with Gemma Owen
Spending time with girlfriend Gemma Owen's famous footballing father Michael Owen must have rubbed off on Love Island's Luca Bish.
The 23 year old former fishmonger has just signed to non-league football and will play for Sussex outfit Hailsham Town, marking his return to the sport.
The football team posted a picture of Luca to their Twitter, saying that they were "delighted" at their new arrival.
The post read: “Delighted to announce a new arrival at The Beaconsfield. Previously with Saltdean United, welcome to the #Stringers Luca Bish!”
19 year old Gemma's dad Michael is a footballing legend, having played professionally for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and the UK national team.
The news comes just a week after Luca pulled out all of the stops in a lavish setting to ask his Love Island love Gemma to be his girlfriend.
The huge romantic poolside set up included red roses, candles, a Cartier bracelet and balloons in the pool spelling out: "Be my girlfriend".
Luca captured the whole moment using a professional videographer and Gemma looked stunned as she took in the elaborate gesture, which both of them then posted to their Instagram accounts.
However, things might not have been quite as they seemed, as a source told OK! that a PDA-shy Gemma was left feeling "uncomfortable" at the proposal-style set up that was then made so public.
The source said: “She played along as she could see how much effort he’d gone to but it made her uncomfortable.
“She was never keen on PDAs in the villa and she wished he’d kept it private rather than plaster it all over Instagram. It’s making her nervous about their future.”
Gemma is known to be extremely close to her father, mother and siblings, and therefore she made it clear to Luca in the Love Island villa that he wasn't to ask her to make it official until he had met and got their seal of approval.
It seems that he did though, after meeting the whole family during a quick trip to Portugal – where Michael owns a villa – just weeks after he and Gemma were runners up on Love Island.
She had dropped some major hints that she was ready for him to ask though when she appeared on Capital Radio on 16 August, saying she was "still waiting" for him to ask her.
During her radio appearance, Gemma was asked: "Is this like an act of waiting, you're wanting it to happen?" to which she replied: "Well I feel like at this point yeah!
She continued: "I mean I know I said in the villa let's wait till we get out, want you to meet the family, let's not rush it, but now I'm like, okay…"
