Oscar nomination celeb reactions 2023: Jamie Lee Curtis and Paul Mescal are SHOCKED as they each earn first ever nods

Jamie Lee Curtis and Paul Mescal showcased their jaw-dropped reaction as they earned their first ever nods when Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday. 

The 64-year-old actress Curtis was shocked when her name was called in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. 

The star shared three images of her response to the honor including the actual moment it happened which left her with her hand over her mouth.

 Jamie captioned the set of images: ‘THIS IS WHAT SURPRISE LOOKS LIKE! One of my oldest besties @debopp texted me at 5:15 that she was sitting in front of my house and did I want company watching the announcements.

She will face stiff competition including: Golden Globe winner Angela Bassett (Black Panther Wakanda Forever), Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), and castmate Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once).

The actress also shared a throwback snap of themselves together with the caption: ‘Oscar nonminee Brendan Fraser #brenaissance’ 

The two have a longtime friendship as they co-stared in Jieho Lee’s The Air I Breathe back in 2007.

Meanwhile Michelle Williams’ BFF Busy Philipps took time to praise her longtime pal for her very impressive fifth Oscar nomination.

The 43-year-old actress took to her Instagram to share a throwback image of Williams, 32, with a lengthy caption which read: ‘BRB- I’m just gonna go back in time and tell this kid that she’s going to have 5 OSCAR NOMINATIONS in the next 20 years. [sobbing emoji] And a BEAUTIFUL family. And be surrounded by love. (And GORGEOUS CLOTHES) But tbh- that’s probably along the lines of what I was saying to her then. I love you MW.

Top Gun: Maverick has been nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture, in a sign that Hollywood is finally listening to audiences and honoring box office hits instead of arthouse favorites.

The movie starring Tom Cruise is nominated for Best Picture along with Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, All Quiet on the Western Front and The Fabelmans at the 95th Academy Awards, which will be hosted on March 12 by Jimmy Kimmel.

While Cruise missed out on a nomination for Best Actor, the nomination for Best Picture could bring him his first Academy Award.

Everything Everywhere All at Once earned ten nominations and The Banshees of Inisherin won eight nominations. The two films swept the Golden Globes earlier this month.

Ana De Armas also won a nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.
