Peter Andre’s ‘dad guilt’ as he misses son Theo’s sports day for work

Peter Andre has opened up on the dad guilt he felt when he was forced to miss his son Theo's sports day due to work.

The 49 year old reacted to Ferne McCann's comments that she felt guilty when she missed her daughter Sunday's fourth birthday while filming Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Ferne said: "Sunday had her fourth birthday when I was doing the course – I was in Jordan, she was in the UK – and it was really hard.

"The main reason I wanted to do it was also the main reason I wanted to quit. In my head, I was like, 'I'm the worst mum – why have I left her?'"

Sympathising with the former The Only Way Is Essex star, Peter writes in his latest column: "Ferne McCann has opened up on feeling mum guilt as she missed her daughter Sunday’s birthday while filming Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

"Like many parents, I get dad guilt. My manager blocks out the kids’ birthdays now so that I’m usually around, but there are times when I’m out of the country or doing shows which makes it difficult.

"It’s hard, but it’s for the greater good and you’re doing the shows to gain experience and also bring money in for the family."

He continued: "Theo and Millie had a sports day once and I could only make Millie’s because I had work in the afternoon, but Emily had work in the morning so she could only make Theo’s.

"We both felt terrible that we weren’t there for both, but work is work."

Peter also opened up on his children returning to school after the summer holidays in his latest column, admitting eldest daughter Princess isn't looking forward to heading back to classes.

He says: "Princess, Millie and Theo all go back to school this week. Junior gets a little bit longer off as he’s at college and his times are different.

"It’s quite full-on having Millie and Theo at one school, Princess at another and then Junior somewhere else.

"Emily’s the more organised out of the two of us. She’s the one asking if they need anything for school as sometimes I completely forget! Hey, no parent is perfect.

"Princess isn’t looking forward to going back as it’s GCSE year. It’s always a drag going back to work or school after a break, but once you get into the flow of it, the time goes so quickly."
