Pink Says She & Gwen Stefani Were Asked To Be In Madonna/Britney Spears VMAs Kiss Too!
Apparently Jennifer Lopez wasn’t the only one asked to be a part of the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards performance with Madonna…
ICYMI, the 53-year-old singer revealed to E! News last month that she was originally supposed to be on stage for the iconic liplock with Britney Spears and Madonna but had to drop out due to scheduling issues. She explained:
“I was filming a movie in Canada, and we had met – me, her, and Britney, to do it – at her home. And then I just couldn’t get off the film. So, I couldn’t do it. And then I guess they got somebody. They got Christina Aguilera to do it. I didn’t wind up doing it. But yeah, we had talked about it. I love Madonna. I’m a huge fan. I always have been.”
Of course, Christina Aguilera ended up taking over the spot. However, it turns out she wasn’t the MTV’s second (or third) choice to join the pop stars onstage! They also asked two other big female artists at the time: Pink and Gwen Stefani!
During an interview with KTU 103.5 on Wednesday, host Carolina said she remembered hearing a “rumor” that the So What singer had been approached for the legendary performance too when talking about J.Lo’s recent confession. Well, that rumor ended up being true! The 43-year-old songstress confirmed that she was considered for the gig, saying:
“I think we all were. I think Madonna wanted to kiss all of us.”
However, she turned down the opportunity since she was on vacation in Costa Rica with her now-husband Carey Hart. Pink also noted she wasn’t the only person asked — mentioning that MTV even called up the Hollaback Girl artist at one point:
“I was in Costa Rica at the time, having all kinds of fun with my boyfriend Carey Hart. Gwen Stefani was also invited, I remember. It was a bunch of us.”
OMG! She then added:
“It was going to be a party. It was going to be a really weird party too.”
Wonder why Gwen decided to turn down the chance to perform with Madonna and Britney?! You can ch-ch-check out Pink’s interview (below):
