Quinta Brunson takes a jab at Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski crash trial and the lack of diversity on Friends while making her SNL hosting debut
Quinta Brunson took a playful swipe at one of the most beloved comedies of all time while making her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live.
After exclaiming that she has been ‘dreaming’ about appearing on SNL since she was a kid, the Emmy winner, 33, spoke about her ‘unique’ TV show, Abbott Elementary, which she described as like Friends but ‘instead of not having black people, it does.’
She also pointed out that instead of ‘being about a group of friends, it’s about a group of teachers. And instead of New York, it’s in Philadelphia.’
During her opening monologue, the star also joked that she is ‘the opposite of’ her character, Janine Teagues, who she described as a ‘good and wholesome’ second grade teacher.
‘I’m not a filthy wh**e, but I like to have fun,’ she mused, before insisting she needs to be able to let loose without people saying: ‘D**n Ms. Teagues is out here getting wasted at Universal Studios.’
Not holding back: Quinta Brunson took a playful swipe at one of the most beloved comedies of all times while making her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live
Her own person: During her opening monologue, the star also joked that she is ‘the opposite of’ her character, Janine Teagues, who she described as a ‘good and wholesome’ second grade teacher
Important message: She proceeded to call viewers to ‘acknowledge the work’ teachers ‘do every day’ and ‘every day, and for the love of god, pay them the money they deserve’

Additionally, the performer revealed she had to start ‘lying’ to her mother ‘about who’ she’s ‘hanging out with’ since getting famous, instead of revealing she’s meeting up with Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama.
She proceeded to urge viewers to ‘acknowledge the work’ teachers ‘do every day’ and ‘for the love of god, pay them the money they deserve.’
‘So please, remember how important teachers are,’ she concluded.
Her first sketch began with two men in a bar of a nightclub bathroom that are on a search for cocaine, but are concerned to buy some laced with fentanyl.
They are immediately approached by a man, who claims his product is so pure that ‘it’s like a bunny rabbit making snow angels on a cloud.’
Brunson then interjects that her drugs are even better, and that her drugs are whiter than ‘Gwenth Paltrow skiing in Utah.’
While going back and forth about who’s coke is the most pure, she hilariously said hers are whiter than someone that takes their ‘shoes and socks off on’ an airplane or Panic! At The Disco’s 2005 hit song I Write Sins Not Tragedies.
Kenan Thompson insisted his coke is even better as he compares his drugs as ‘so white, its dad sends it money every month for rent.’

Next, Brunson portrays a woman that is tapped to serve as a bridesmaid in a wedding.
‘I just got this feeling it wasn’t the kind of question you could say no to,’ she recalled.
Before recalling their experiences in a fake documentary about their harrowing experiences as bridesmaids, a man, portraying a UCLA professor, stated: ‘Each year, more than 6 million women fall into this type of cult. They prey on vulnerable groups like college roommates and sisters-in-law.’
A former bridesmaid, portrayed by Heidi Gardner, described losing all control of her calendar and being bombarded with messages, despite initially being sold on a ‘one day’ commitment.
‘For the next 18 months, I was fully sucked in,’ she said.
Another former bridesmaid (Ego Nwodim) said she was placed in an ’email chain’ and regularly sent group texts as well as forced to have ‘whole conversations’ through Venmo.
Bowen Yang, who portrayed a gay man forced into being in a bridal party, revealed he ‘drugged’ himself to get through a bachelorette party.
Brunson then told the cameras that she spent $300 on a blue chiffon gown with a ‘modest neckline’ that the bride tried to convince her she would be able to wear again.
Yang then detailed the most ‘demeaning’ part of the experience, which was having to ‘write and perform original lyrics’ based on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.
It concludes with Brunson’s character flashing her engagement ring as she reveals she ‘just got engaged.’
‘Don’t worry. I’m going to be such a chill bride,’ she said as ominous music played in the background.

The Philadelphia native, who married her husband Kevin Jay Anik in 2021, proceeded to play Thompson’s wife on a game show, called Couple Goals.
While they initially are off to a good start as he successfully remembers her favorite type of food, things go south when he is asked what their biggest fight was about.
She then shows her answer on a flashcard, which read: ‘The time I hit a half court shot at a basketball game and they gave me free rock climbing lessons for life, and you ran out and ripped up the certificate in front of the whole stadium.’
After revealing his biggest fear was having to spend the rest of his life taking care of her, if she fell down the stairs and broke her neck, Brunson began to simmer.
Later, he revealed if she was ‘healthy’ his dream vacation would be Aruba, but if she was ever in an accident, he’d rather go to Big Sur with her and her sister.
‘After years of caring for you together, we will have grown close in a way we never expected,’ he predicted. ‘And, when we finally climax together under the Redwoods, we’ll hold each other and weep, not just because the pleasure is so intense but because we finally feel relief from our tragically shared burden.’
The answer clearly upsets her, but ends up winning them the game, which is an all-expenses-paid trip to Bali’s Temple of Thousand Steps.
This causes Thompson to let out a terrified scream.

The actress, who made history as the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy category last year, goes on to portray a single lady that gets involved in a heated argument with a father (Mikey Day) and daughter (Chloe Fineman.)
Day initially expressed to his kid that he’s upset that Brunson ‘almost caused an accident just to sit there in bumper to bumper traffic.’
‘You cut me off. You drive crazy,’ he yells to Brunson, who is in the car to the left of him.
She refuses to apologize and explains that she used her blinker.
‘That’s a lie. You lie. Shame on you,’ he fires back, before she tells him to ‘eat’ her butt.
He then grumbles: ‘You, you are a sad woman. You, sad woman.’
After minutes of fighting and insulting each other, they both reveal they are single.
‘Respect, respect. Hey, this might be crazy. But are you hungry?’ she asks.
After he agrees to eat with her, she then tells him to ‘eat this butt.’
Fineman then steps in to tell Brunson to ‘suck’ it as cars honked all around them.
