Rebekah Vardy’s husband Jamie taunted with ‘your wife is a grass’ chants at match
Rebekah Vardy's husband, footballer Jamie Vardy, has been taunted by chants about his wife at a recent match.
Manchester United fans poked fun at the striker during the team's 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday, 19 February, chanting: "Your wife is a grass".
The chant was a jibe at Rebekah for her now infamous trial against Coleen Rooney, which saw her take Coleen to court for libel and ultimately lose in one of the most-followed news stories in recent years.
The saga, playfully dubbed Wagatha Christie, took social media by storm, and was even turned into a West End production as well as a television drama, the latter starring Michael Sheen as the barrister in the case, David Sherborne.
And despite things coming to a head in July last year, it seems the trial hasn't been forgotten about quite yet.
Fans could be heard chanting the jibe aimed at his wife as Jamie, 36, was subbed off the bench to replace Kelechi Iheanacho late in the game at Old Trafford.
Later, they also chanted "Rooney, Rooney, Rooney" as a tribute to Coleen's husband and former Manchester United legend Wayne.
Rebekah, 40, has since been open about how the trial affected her and her family, revealing the overall impact on her and her children in a documentary about the whole debacle in November 2022.
"Social media is the root of all evil," she said at the time, during an interview in which she also denied all wrongdoing.
"At that point [during the trial], it ruined my life. My kids were being bullied.
"I found it really difficult. I was scared to leave the house. I had paparazzi parked outside my house that would follow me, turn their car around and drive at me down the same side of the road as me.
"I remember one journalist saying, 'I won't leave her alone until I've got the picture I want.' That's not OK."
In a bid to put the past well and truly behind her, the mum of five is set to turn her hand at documentaries herself.
Later this year, fans will see Rebekah take the helm of a new docuseries investigating the world of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The series will see her travel across the UK to meet several members of the Jehovah's Witnesses community.
A source told The Sun: "Rebekah has been inundated with TV offers, but turned down everything to do with the Wagatha Christie trial as she wants to move on.
"She has decided to make this documentary as it's completely different and a topic she cares strongly about.
"It could be the start of a new career move for her and she's excited."
