Robert De Niro, 79, announces name of newborn daughter and shares sweet first photo
Robert De Niro has announced the name of his newborn daughter, as he shared a sweet photo of the baby girl.
The actor, 79, shocked fans when he announced the birth of his seventh child during an interview to promote his upcoming film About My Father.
Although he confirmed that he is now a dad-of-seven, The Taxi Driver star did not share any more information about the newest addition to his family, nor did he share who the baby's mother is.
In a phone interview with Gayle King, on CBS Morning's, Robert has shared some more details about his daughter, revealing that her name is Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, confirming that her mother is the actor's girlfriend Victoria Chen.
Discussing her phone call with Robert, Gayle shared that he told her that the baby was planned, and had been "brought here by love."
Robert shares his two oldest children Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46, with his first wife Diahnne Abbott, with he was married to from 1976 to 1988.
He also shares twins Julian and Aaron, 27, with his ex Toukie Smith, and son Elliot, 25, and daughter Helen, 11, with his ex-wife Grace Hightower.
Robert's revelation that he has become a father again at the aged of 79 has proved somewhat controversial, with yesterday's Good Morning Britain featuring a debate on whether the actor is too old to be having a baby.
Guests father-of-four Tru Powell, and founder of the Geriatric Mum blog, Lucy Baker debated the topic, with show hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls weighing in to get their views too.
Tru said that he isn’t calling for a ban on elderly men becoming fathers, but he does think that “60, 64 or 65 should be the end time to have a kid.”
Taking the opposite view, Lucy argued: "79 is no young age. Let's be honest, but he is bringing a child into the world who is loved, who is supported, who has lots of sisters and brothers already.
"I don't think being a good dad means going to a sports day race. We're talking about a super celebrity here, it's not the norm."
While Susanna shared that she could understand why people might think it was “self-indulgent” and “selfish” to have a child at such an old age.
Ed also expressed his opinion and said it was “wrong” because when the child hits their adult years, De Niro will be hitting triple figures in age.
“If he is still alive that is,” Ed added.
