Girl-dad Ryan Gosling admits even his work boils down to fatherhood

Whether he’s playing a life-sized Ken doll in “Barbie” or a spy on a globe-trotting mission in “The Gray Man,” Ryan Gosling says the daughters he shares with partner Eva Mendes — 7-year-old Esmeralda and 6-year-old Amada — inspire everything he does, even if they don’t see that quite yet. “I’m like a dad first,” Ryan recently told heat magazine, according to The Daily Mail, “and part of the reason for doing [‘The Gray Man’] was this opportunity for us to go to these interesting places and be there with my kids.” So did they appreciate the fact that dad showed them great works of art and monumentally historic places? Meh. “You know it’s funny, we went to France and we went everywhere — we went to the Louvre and all these things,” Ryan explained. “And if I asked them now, ‘What was you favorite part about France?’ They will say, ‘The fruit plate at the hotel.'” While the girls aren’t old enough for their dad’s new spy movie, they do know who Ken of Barbie-and-Ken fame is. They just don’t know why Ryan took the role. According to the actor, playing Ken in “Barbie” was a way to help him introduce the girls to what he does for a living. “Not necessarily like I’m making it for them, but it’s the first time I think they kind of are understanding,” he explained. “Although they can’t for the life them understand why I want to play Ken,” he added, “because nobody plays with Ken … but that’s why we must tell his story.”

Whoops. Brad Pitt has clarified comments he made to GQ about being on the “last leg” of his career, telling a Deadline reporter he never meant to imply he’s ready for retirement. At the Los Angeles premiere of “Bullet Train” this week, a journalist started to ask a question that began, “I know you talked about sort of retiring recently …” The person didn’t get much further before Brad, 58, jumped in. “No!,” he hollered, laughing out loud. “I really have to work on my phrasing. No, I was just saying I’m past middle age and I want to be specific about how I spend those last days, however they may be.” Asked to elaborate, he pretty much said that’s not an option. “I’ve never been a five-year plan kind of guy,” Brad explained. “I’m just, whatever feels right for the day. I still operate that way.” Speaking to GQ earlier this year, the star described his “last leg” as being the “last semester or trimester,” in terms of how he might “design” that period for himself. If Brad’s recent red carpet looks are any indication, by the way, his “last trimester” is heading in a playful direction at the moment. Asked what inspired him to wear a skirt at last month’s Berlin premiere of “Bullet Train,” Brad told Variety, “I don’t know! We’re all going to die, so let’s mess it up.”

Brad Pitt joins Marilyn Monroe’s estate in defending Ana de Armas’ performance in ‘Blonde’

Following pushback from fans, both Marilyn Monroe’s estate and Brad Pitt have spoken out in support of Ana de Armas’ casting in the upcoming Netflix movie “Blonde.” When the trailer was released last week, a number of viewers complained on social media that Ana’s Cuban-Spanish accent could be heard bleeding through her take on Marilyn’s famously breathy voice. Despite not having authorized the dark, new film from director Andrew Dominik, Marilyn’s estate defended Ana’s work in a statement to Variety on Monday, Aug. 1. “Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history,” said Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, which owns the Marilyn Monroe estate. “Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!” Brad Pitt, who’s credited as a producer on “Blonde,” also praised Ana’s Marilyn performance on Monday, telling Entertainment Tonight, “she’s phenomenal in” the film. “That’s a tough dress to fill,” he added, noting that the project took a decade to get off the ground. “It wasn’t until we found Ana that we could get it across the finish line,” he said. Ana previously told U.K. outlet The Times she spent “nine months of dialect coaching, and practicing and some ADR sessions” to achieve the voice she uses for the film. The film — an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’s acclaimed biographical fiction novel “Blonde” — focuses on Marilyn’s psyche and tumultuous inner life more than actual events. It premieres on Netflix Sept. 28.

Demi Lovato switches pronouns again

Demi Lovato has resumed using she/her pronouns after coming out as nonbinary and adopting they/them pronouns last year. During a recent appearance on Tamara Dhia’s “Sprout” podcast, the host asked Demi to help her better understand the notion of using they/them. “I’ve actually adopted the pronouns of she/her again,” Demi said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “So, for me, I’m such a fluid person that … I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced in my masculine and feminine energy. So … when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said ‘women’ and ‘men,’ I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman. I didn’t feel like a man. I just felt like a human,” Demi explained. “And that’s what they/them is about for me. It’s just about, like, feeling human at your core,” she continued. “Recently, I’ve been feeling more feminine, and so I’ve adopted she/ her again. But I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning. It’s just all about respect.” As of this week, Demi lists her pronouns on Instagram as “they/them/she/her.” And as she said in an interview at The 19th Represents summit last summer, Demi sees gender not as something static but as a “journey” that’s likely to take her whole life to explore. For the singer, “it’s about keeping it open and free — I’m a very fluid person, and so that goes with how I express myself as well,” she said.

Nick Cannon rents out entire water park for twins Monroe and Moroccan

Nick Cannon’s daddy duties may have grown with the recent birth of his eighth child, but he clearly has enough time and energy (and money) for all the little ones in his life. Over the weekend, the “Wild N Out” host appears to have rented out an entire water park so he could treat his 11-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, to a day of splash-filled fun. A video posted on Nick’s Instagram shows highlights from the star’s day with the kiddos, who he shares with ex-wife, Mariah Carey. “Waterpark to ourselves!!! It’s the Roc & Roe Takeover!!” he captioned a video shot during the fam’s group ride down a giant waterslide. The footage ends with Roc and Roe adorably jumping around with excitement as they make their way to another ride. Nick recently revealed he and Bre Tiesi welcomed a baby boy named Legendary. Nick’s reportedly expecting a ninth child in October with DJ Abby De La Rosa (Nick and Abby also share a set of twins). He recently hinted to ET that he had at least three more kids on the way in 2022.

Amber Heard chose not to ask for ‘tens of millions’ of dollars she was entitled to in Johnny Depp divorce, new docs show

Thousands of pages of court documents filed by Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s legal teams ahead of their defamation trial were recently unsealed, showing, among other bombshells, Amber opted not to ask for “tens of millions of dollars” more in her divorce settlement from Johnny. Insider, which confirmed the content of the documents with the Virginia court where Amber and Johnny’s latest showdown took place, reported California law would have entitled her to half Johnny’s take-home from the fifth installment his “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, since he shot it while they were still married. “Simply put … you are potentially leaving a lot of money (to wit, tens of millions of dollars payable to you) on the table by waiving your interest in Johnny’s back-end deals for projects he worked on during marriage,” writes one of Amber’s attorneys, Samantha Spector, in an email from 2016. “Candidly, you are being amazingly true to your word, that this is not about the money,” Samantha added. “With tremendous respect, you are walking away from a lot of money.” Amber’s disinterest in the extra money was not brought into evidence in the defamation case because the judge overseeingthe trial refused to allow evidence from the former couple’s divorce proceedings. Johnny initially sued Amber for defamation on grounds her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post implied he abused her during their marriage, which he has denied. She countersued, but the jury ultimately found mostly in favor of Johnny, though they conceded the tow defamed each other.

What matters is your health,” she explains. Though she admits she’s been able to afford “the things that help make you continue to look young,” she also points out that “we all know a lot of women who are wealthy who’ve had all kinds of facelifts and things like that and they look terrible.” Reflecting on her own plastic surgery experience, Jane continues: “I had a facelift and I stopped because I don’t want to look distorted. I’m not proud of the fact … Now, I don’t know if I had it to do over if I would do it. But I did it. I admit it, and then I just say, OK, you can get addicted. Don’t keep doing it.” Rather than take that risk, Jane focuses on the basics when it comes to looking great. “I don’t spend a lot of money on face creams or anything like that,” she tells the outlet. “But I stay moisturized, I sleep, I move, I stay out of the sun, and I have good friends who make me laugh.”
