Sophie Ellis-Bextor shares surprising link to Eurovision’s Mae Muller

Eurovision: Liverpool beats Glasgow to host contest in 2023

Mae Muller, 25, is gearing up to represent the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest next month and already has a supporter in disco queen Sophie Ellis-Bextor, 44.

Sophie, who has been a Eurovision fan since she was a child, revealed to Express.co.uk that she has known Mae for almost 20 years.

Discussing the I Wrote A Song singer, Sophie shared: “I was already a fan of Mae and I’ve actually known her since she was really little

“Her aunt is a friend of mine, it’s someone I’ve worked with for about 20 years, so I first met Mae when she was only about six.

“I’ve been really enjoying her career already and when she was announced as our Eurovision entry I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is so exciting’.

“She’s a great performer and I think she’s just got that nice confidence about her; I think she’ll just have a lot of fun up there; I think she’s going to nail it.”

London-born Mae first received mainstream recognition after releasing the single Better Days in 2021.

The song, which is a collaboration with rapper Polo G and Neiked, featured in the top 40 charts in both the UK and US.

Murder On The Dancefloor hitmaker Sophie will also be playing her part in this year’s contest.
