Strictlys Amy Dowden very sore as she gives update after breast cancer surgery

Amy Dowden has given an update to fans after undergoing surgery for her breast cancer, assuring that while she is 'very sore', the procedure went well.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional, 32, announced the news of her heart-breaking grade 3 breast cancer diagnosis in May, sharing that she is 'determined' to get back on the dancefloor in no time.

After sharing a beaming picture of herself to Instagram from the hospital ahead of the surgery, the TV star returned to the platform afterwards to detail how her surgery went.

"Surgery went well. Big thanks to my two surgeons and nurses who have been utterly amazing and looking after me. Very sore but focusing on the positives they said the surgery went well! Thanks for all the support and messages," wrote Amy to her 370K followers on Thursday morning.

The BBC star – who has been partnered up with celebrities such as Tom Fletcher, Karim Zeroual and, most recently, EastEnders favourite James Bye during her time on the dancing show – has been inundated with support from former dance partners, friends and family.

Ahead of the surgery, McFly's Tom wrote on Instagram: "Sending you all the love today. Us Fletchers are right behind you. X"

While fellow professional dancers Gorka Marquez, Graziano Di Prima, Giovanni Pernice and Karen Hauer were among the well-wishers as they sent their love and support to their co-star.

Sharing the initial news, she informed fans that she'd found a hard lump in her breast the day before she and her new husband Ben Jones flew off on her belated honeymoon in April – after tying the knot last year.

Amy was taking part in a charity trek for CoppaFeel! last June before receiving her own diagnosis, after the campaign highlighted the importance to her of regularly checking her breasts.

After finding a lump on her right breast and monitoring it for a couple of weeks, Amy noticed it seemed to have grown so made in immediate appointment with her GP, who referred her for an emergency appointment within 24 hours, who diagnosed her with stage three breast cancer.

"Three is the most aggressive, but they feel like they've caught mine early and to not be too alarmed because grade 3 would be expected in somebody of my age," she said.

Following the news, representatives for Strictly Come Dancing revealed they will not be replacing Amy on this season of Strictly, saying: "We will not be recasting for another professional dancer for 2023."
