Sydney Sweeney has slammed ‘absurd’ claims regarding her family’s political ties after fans began to speculate they were right-wing following her mother’s recent hoedown-inspired 60th birthday party.
The Euphoria star, 24, had shared snaps from the themed party to her Instagram account early Saturday, one of which featured a male partygoer wearing what appeared to be a Blue Lives Matter shirt.
‘You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,’ wrote the Euphoria star in a statement shared to Twitter.
‘Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone ❤️ and Happy Birthday Mom!’ she concluded.

Many of Sweeney’s followers also took notice of several partygoers wearing red hats that were similar in appearance to the headwear that has been worn by Donald Trump’s supporters.
The headwear was spotted on a number of guests in a video that the actress shared of herself dancing with her loved ones.
The actress’ younger brother Trent shared a photo of himself posing with two hat-wearing guests to his Instagram account earlier this week.
He also wrote a short message in the post’s caption and expressed that ‘The hats say “Make Sixty Great Again,”‘ an apparent reference to his mother’s age.

A Twitter user also wrote that ‘posting photos of your family members literally wearing white supremacy memorabilia is so, so weird.’

Sweeney has been open about her admiration for her parents, and spoke about how her mother in particular helped her when she decided to take up acting during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.
‘I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my dreams without her supporting that decision. I was 12, 13 years old and my mom and dad gave up everything that they knew for me to be able to pursue my dreams,’ she recalled.
The performer made a point of describing how her mother and father were particularly devoted to helping her achieve success in acting.
‘I had no connections. I did not come from money…but I had parents who, no matter what, believed in me,’ she said.

Sweeney was also nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award after she appeared as Olivia Mossbacher in the first season of The White Lotus, which premiered last year.
