Alex Jones, 45, hosted a special episode of The One Show today with co-presenter Gethin Jones, 44, entitled “Our Queen Remembered”. The star became emotional when she toured the UK to speak to members of the British public about the late Queen’s death.
Today, the public funeral service for Queen Elizabeth II took place in Westminster Abbey at 11am.
During the One Show’s broadcast, Alex and Gethin spoke to various people about the impact the Queen had made on their lives.
When Alex took to the streets to get reactions from the public, she was particularly moved when she spoke to one elderly man about the monarch’s legacy.
“What does it mean to you that we’ve lost our Queen?” she asked gently.
“Broke my heart,” the man responded with a long pause, prompting Alex to look a little choked up.
“Still, you know what they say,” he continued, “The Queen has died, so long live the King.”
The camera then cut back to Alex and Gethin in the BBC studio, where they looked solemn.
“I’ll tell you what,” Alex told her co-presenter, “Speaking to that last gentleman nearly broke my heart. He was in pieces.”
“It’s been lovely to go out into the UK and speak to people,” she added sincerely.
Also appearing on The One Show this evening was the Queen’s personal piper, Pipe Major Paul Burns.
It was revealed that the musician’s role during the monarch’s life had been to wake her up every morning with a short tune.
In a poignant turn of events, it was also his job to close her funeral, playing her to rest.

Queen Elizabeth II died “peacefully” at Balmoral Castle on September 8 at the age 96.
The tearful ceremony this morning marked the first time a monarch’s funeral has been held at Westminster since the 18th century.
Thousands of people lined the streets of London to bid a final farewell to the Queen, with many hoping to get a glimpse of her coffin as she passed by.
A two-minute silence has been held across the United Kingdom to mark the end of her historic reign before she is laid to rest with Prince Philip.
A number of celebrities were spotted in London for the funeral today, including Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh and Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster, who was there as part of the police effort.
World Commonwealth leaders including Canada’s Justin Trudeau and New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern were also in attendance.
The One Show returns tomorrow night at 7pm on BBC One.
