The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran says Tom Parker helped him ‘face his fears’

Dancing on Ice star Siva Kaneswaran said he has been inspired to do things he’d “never do” following his late bandmate Tom Parker’s battle with an inoperable brain tumour.

Tom was just 33 when he tragically passed away in March, following an 18-month battle with brain cancer. He left behind his heartbroken wife Kelsey, and their two children, daughter Aurelia, two, and son Bodhi, one.

The 34 year old said: "It reminded me that life was worth living. I’ve been making decisions based on that – doing my driving test finally in Los Angeles, booking the flight I always wanted to go on, and signing up to a songwriting degree course.

"All my fears have shrunk. I’m grateful for everything that comes at me and this is another thing that has come my way. Let’s have fun with it!”

And his fiancée Nareesha McCaffrey is very excited by his latest venture on the ITV skating show.

Siva, who’s paired with pro skater Klabera Komini, said: "She was like, ‘Oh my God – you’re going to meet Torvill and Dean!' She’s from Nottingham so they’re like gods to her!”

Siva was the final contestant to be announced for this year's ITV's Dancing on Ice line-up. Appearing live on Good Morning Britain, Siva quipped that he asked his manager if it was too late to pull out, but went on to say that he was "overall excited".

Siva added that he's that much of a newcomer to the ice that he's been using the training penguins – typically used by children.

He went on: "I’m very excited. I’m trying to be positive and not be in a fearful mindset! I’m looking forward to meeting all the cast. I want to learn how to skate and make my family proud of me and put on a show for everyone to see and hopefully not make a fool of myself!”

Siva will join Michelle Heaton, Joey Essex, Hollyoaks' Carley Stenson, RuPaul's Drag Race UK 2019 winner The Vivienne, EastEnders' Patsy Palmer, John Fashanu, comedian Darren Harriott, Corrie's Mollie Gallagher, Olympic Gymnast Nile Wilson and Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

Jayne, 65, and Chris, 64, won Olympic gold when they competed in the winter games in Sarajevo in 1984. The iconic pair are returning to the show for the fifth year running, having played a part since Dancing on Ice returned in 2018.

They are joined on the panel by Diversity dancer Ashley Banjo and former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Oti Mabuse, who won the BBC dance show twice with celebrity partners Bill Bailey and Kelvin Fletcher.
