TikTok star Megha Thakur, 21, dies ‘unexpectedly’, her parents confirm
TikTok star and body positivity influencer Megha Tahkur has died unexpectedly, aged just 21, her parents have confirmed.
Confirming the tragic news on Megha's Instagram, they wrote: "It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on November 24, 2022 in the early morning hours.
"Megha was a confident and independent young woman. She will be dearly missed. She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing.
"At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey"
They signed the message off as "Megha's loving parents" and shared that a funeral service was held on November 29.
Fans of the late star, who boasted 930,000 followers on video sharing app TikTok, commented their condolences on the post, with many sharing how she had helped them have more confidence in their bodies.
One wrote: "My dearest Megha, this is absolutely devastating. Sending your family so much love. I’m so truly saddened by the loss of a creative genius."
While another said: "her posts brought so much confidence and light when i was struggling, she was always an angel, and beautiful inside and out. i’m sorry for your loss and may she rest in peace."
A third simply wrote: "I keep staring at this hoping it isn't real," while a fourth commented: "megha knew how much of a force she was in the influencer space and how many women looked up to her, I told her all the time. we lost an angel too soon. I’m keeping you and your family in my thoughts."
The late TikTok star had amassed almost one million followers, where she posted videos encouraging others to feel confident in their own bodies.
A number of her videos had gone viral on the app, amassing well over 10 million views. Her most recent video saw the influencer walking around New York City.
She captioned the clip: "YOU’RE in charge of your destiny. Remember that."
Megha was also known for championing South Asian representation, and posted a video showing off outfits inspired by the Sharma family on Bridgerton.
Since the announcement of her passing, fans have continued sharing their tributes in the comment section of her TikTok videos, with one writing: "Goodbye Megha, thank you so much for proving to ppl that being confident is possible even when ppl think it’s not and just inspiring me."
A second comment reads: "Rest easy Megha, thank you for spreading positivity and guiding so many people to loving themselves, we’ll never forget you!"
