Legendary singer and Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll Tina Turner died at the age of 83 on Wednesday following a long illness.

The Best hitmaker at her home in Switzerland, her publicist revealed, though an exact cause of death was not initially revealed.

Tina rose to fame as part of the Ike and Tina Turner duo in the 60s, with smash hits including River Deep – Mountain High, but Tina ended her marriage to Ike after he inflicted horrific violence on her.

She went on to carve out an incredible career as a solo artist in the 80s and became a musical powerhouse in her own right, becoming known as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Tina made her incredible comeback alongside the British Electronic Foundation and also rose herself to icon status starring in Tommy in 1975 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

She released her career-making hit The Best in 1989 and found huge success with a whole host of iconic tracks including What’s Love Got to Do with It, becoming one of the biggest names in soul music.

After being celebrated with an impressive eight Grammy Awards, Tina went on to perform on stage with Beyonce in 2008 to win a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

1975: Amid her musical break, Tina starred as The Acid Queen in 1975’s musical indie film Tommy

1979: After her split from Ike in 1978 and a suicide attempt – Tina reemerged with a sexier image and costumes for a cabaret tour as she amazingly launched her solo career 

Awards: Throughout her career, Turner won eight Grammys from 25 nominations and three lifetime Grammy Awards (pictured at the Grammys in 1982) 

1984: Capitol issued the album’s second single, What’s Love Got to Do With It which scored Turner her first and only Billboard number one (pictured in 1985)

1985: Tina won four Grammys for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, and Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female for the single and album What’s Love Got to Do with It (pictured with Lionel Richie) 

1985: Tina traveled to Australia to star opposite Mel Gibson in the 1985 post-apocalyptic film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome –  her first acting role in ten years

1985: Tina took to stage with the stars, including the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger during the 1985 Live Aid concert in Philadelphia. She had toured with the Rolling Stones in the late 60s

1987: Tina’s Break Every Rule World Tour was the third highest-grossing tour by a female artist in North America that year. It came after she released her sixth solo album, Break Every Rule in 1986, which sold over five million copies worldwide 

1989: Tina released the Foreign Affair album in 1989 which reached No. 1 in eight countries and included one of her signature songs, The Best – a cover of Bonnie Tyler’s hit

1999: Tina performs The Best at Divas Live special on VH1 in an iconic performance 

2000: Tina released her final solo album Twenty Four Seven and went on tour before announcing her retirement at 60

2008: Tina made a surprise appearance with Beyonce at the 2008 Grammys – and would also win an award as a featured artist on River: The Joni Letters

2008: Tina embarked on her first tour in nearly ten years with the Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour – the following year she would retire from performing once again

2018: Tina is impressively awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (she is pictured in July that year)
