Tyrese Gibson Ordered To Pay HOW MUCH In Child Support?!
It’s time for Tyrese Gibson to fork over a LOT of money in child support…
Tyrese was in a family courtroom in Fulton County, Georgia this week to deal with the ongoing child custody hearing-slash-child support case brought against the movie star by ex-wife Samantha Lee Gibson.
As we previously reported, the duo broke up at the very end of 2020, with Tyrese sharing a head-scratching release about their split. Ever since, their co-parenting controversies surrounding now-4-year-old daughter Soraya Lee Gibson have been front and center.
On Tuesday, Atlanta Judge Kevin Farmer ruled the Fast & Furious star must hand over $237,944 in back-dated child support for Soraya — and an additional $399,000 in attorney’s fees to cover the costs of Samantha’s legal representation! Plus, the judge demanded Tyrese give up $17,000 for a “special master,” a court-appointed mediator who oversees minor disputes that arise during custody cases so they don’t have to go to court for every little thing.
Total it all up, and after the gavel dropped on Tuesday, Tyrese is now suddenly facing down a $653,000 bill!
Jeez!!!
This has all come out now because Tyrese hasn’t been paying a court-ordered $10,000-per-month for Soraya’s care. Judge Farmer ordered Tyrese to begin doing so nearly a year ago, but the actor apparently refused. Then, to make matters worse, he ripped the judge in scathing social media comments! How you gonna act like that, Tyrese?
The Baby Boy star had been paying $2,236 per month for the last year, per TMZ. But because he was falling well short of the court-ordered payments, Judge Farmer took action on Tuesday to change that. Tyrese did take the stand and testify that a monthly $10,000 payment was excessive. Per the news outlet, his argument was that his ex “makes good money on her own.” Judge Farmer wasn’t moved by that angle of attack, though, and laid down the law.
As expected, it sounds like Judge Farmer didn’t care for Tyrese’s previous public criticisms of his reputation and the court’s work either. Per TMZ, Judge Farmer held Tyrese in contempt of court during the proceeding. That means the 2 furious magistrate could have had the movie star arrested! The judge chose not to do that, though. Instead, he simply ordered the star to pay up on the remaining amount due plus interest — or else risk greater legal consequences in the weeks and months ahead.
It appears Tyrese did catch at least one (small) break, though. Judge Farmer set May 15 as Tyrese’s due date for about half of the ordered payment. So, the Rogue Hostage star has a little more than two weeks to get that money together. Just don’t call The Rock for a loan, dude. LOLz!!
The news outlet also reports the 44-year-old star will fight the ruling. Tyrese’s attorney Tanya Mitchell Graham told TMZ she “will file an appeal” as soon as Judge Farmer’s order is entered into county court records. Graham has already filed a motion for a new trial in the ongoing child custody case. That motion is due to be ruled on next month. So perhaps things could still change some from here…
As for Samantha, TMZ cites her attorney Adam Gleklen as saying the miffed momma merely wants to “co-parent their daughter, follow the court orders, and move forward in peace.” No kidding. Not too surprising to hear she agrees with Tuesday’s ruling, which came down 100% in her favor — and then some!
