It’s an undisputed fact at this point that Taylor Swift is the queen of Easter Eggs and cryptic clues, right? We all agree there? Good. Because, honestly, if the following theory were about anyone other than Taylor, it would be completely absurd, but since this *is* Taylor “Queen of Secret Encoded Messages That Mean Something Else” Alison Swift, it could actually be a thing.
Search back in your mental Swiftie file to November 2021 (yes, almost a full damn year ago) to when Taylor was making the rounds promoting Red (Taylor’s Version) and her All Too Well short film and she stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers wearing *this* show-stopping LBD:
The lewk immediately garnered comparisons to one of the most iconic dresses of all time, the black, off-the-shoulder Christina Stambolian Princess Diana wore to the Serpentine Gallery in London in June 1994. The event happened to be on the exact day that her estranged husband, then-Prince Charles, admitted in a televised interview that he’d had an affair with (his eventual second wife) Camilla Parker Bowles. The dress has henceforth been known colloquially as Diana’s “revenge dress,” for reasons that are obvious:
So, what does all of this have to do with Taylor’s status as Queen of Cryptic Clues? Well, if you’ve been listening to Midnights on repeat since it dropped (and, statistically-speaking, you probably have, given all the streaming records the album has been breaking), then you’re probably already hearing “Vigilante Sh*t” in your head rn.
