Victoria and David Beckham ‘embarrassed’ by Nicola’s wedding planner drama
Victoria and David Beckham are said to be “horrified” and “embarrassed” after intimate details of their son Brooklyn’s wedding were revealed as part of a bitter lawsuit.
Less than a year after Brooklyn, who turns 24 this week, married Nicola Peltz, 28, at her family’s £76 million mansion in Palm Beach, her father Nelson filed a lawsuit against their wedding planners, Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba from Plan Design Events, claiming they had refused to refund his $159,000 deposit.
“After launching legal action against the wedding planners, Nicola’s father is determined for this lawsuit to go ahead,” our source says. “But the Beckhams are horrified by the whole thing. It’s very expensive and it doesn’t put anyone in a good light.”
Billionaire Nelson, 80, claims the planners were fired over alleged “mistakes” just weeks before the big day. Last week, Braghin and Grijalba, who took over from a previous wedding planner who quit, filed a counterclaim for breach of contract and “interference” with a business deal.
Private details of the wedding plans have now come to light in the legal documents, including text message exchanges in which Nicola told the planners she was “tired of catching” their repeated mistakes.
Much of the drama centres on confusion over their extensive wedding guest list. In a conversation about Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton attending the bash, Nicola wrote, “We spoke to him. He can’t come so explain why you said he rsvpd yes.”
The planner said in response, “I need time to do this. I’m going to take a moment to learn the app [to manage the guest list] and send you the information. I hate looking like a fool but I hate the most not giving you what you need ASAP. I will be back soon.”
In another text exchange, Nicola seems increasingly frustrated that she hasn’t been given a list of who has and hasn’t been invited. “This is not what I asked for. I ASKED FOR OUR INVITE LIST. IN. VITE. NOT. RSVP. Can u manage to send that to me [sic],” she wrote.
The guest list was later described as looking like a “murder scene”.
And in a message that could be embarrassing for the Beckhams, she also appears to undermine her husband-to-be.
After Brooklyn wrote, “We should do a Brooklyn burger. L ke double or single burger and a Nicola burger witch is no bun and it’s lettuce instead of Bun and meat for the girls [sic].” Nicola replied, “I don’t love it,” adding a vomit emoji.
It’s also claimed she told the wedding planners not to consult her fiancé, telling them, “Do not trust Brooklyn with this. You should be asking an assistant. He has no idea. And is guessing.”
The wedding was eventually coordinated by New York-based wedding planner Michelle Rago.
Our source says only a few exchanges between Nicola and the planners have gone public and this won’t be the end of it.
“We’ve only seen some of the demands and some of the messages that were sent by Nicola, there will no doubt be more to come,” claimed our source. “This could get nasty and the Beckhams, particularly Victoria, are worried about what it will do to Brand Beckham.
“They don’t want to be tarnished with the association of this court case. It’s going to be embarrassing for them. The lawsuit has overshadowed the special day and left a bad taste.”
Nicola and Brooklyn’s lavish wedding was a weekend-long extravaganza, with celebrities including actress Eva Longoria, tennis star Serena Williams, two of Victoria’s former Spice Girl bandmates, Melanie C and Mel B, and chef Gordon Ramsay’s family in attendance.
While the wedding itself was praised as “incredible” by Melanie C, it sounds like the run-up was dogged by problems – and outlandish demands. It’s alleged that the bride told her planners their choice of wedding flowers “weren’t white enough”, while it also emerged she spent £83,000 on hair and make-up.
According to the legal papers, Victoria was “kept in the dark” about the issues that arose during the planning.
“Both Claudia [Nicola’s mother] and Nicola had insisted that Victoria Beckham could not know about any internal mistakes regarding the ongoing planning of her son’s wedding, including any errors with the guest list,” the lawsuit claims.
There are now fears the legal action could reignite the rumoured feud between Nicola and mother-in-law Victoria, who reportedly fell out after the bride refused to wear one of Vic’s dresses on her big day.
The lawsuit also claims Nelson called Nicola’s wedding to Brooklyn Beckham a “s**t show” and wanted to cancel
it altogether until his wife “begged” him not to.
Despite the furore, our source says Brooklyn will stand by his wife, saying, “He didn’t get involved much with the planning, he left it to Nicola and her mum. They didn’t want Victoria to know about any mistakes because they wanted to be in control of it all.”
Last week Victoria, 48, and David, 47, escaped the drama as they jetted off on a skiing holiday to the French Alps with their youngest son Cruz, 18, and 11-year-old daughter Harper.
The trip to Courchevel, one of the world’s most luxurious ski resorts, gave the family the perfect opportunity to get away for a while and to celebrate Cruz’s birthday, which was on 20 March.
“The Beckhams have gone on a skiing holiday and are putting on a united front,” said our source. “But they are quite worried about it. They know that it’s not just going to go away any time soon and it’s very public.
“Feud rumours between the Beckhams and Peltz family have been going on for a while now, and this is only going to fuel things even more.”
A representative for the Beckhams declined to comment.
