William and Kate to ‘cut short Coronation plans’ due to Charlotte’s birthday clash
Prince William and Kate Middleton are to cut short Coronation rehearsals for Princess Charlotte’s birthday, it has been claimed.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Prince Archie is not the only royal grandchild to be celebrating a birthday during Coronation week, as Princess Charlotte will turn eight on May 2, whilst Prince Archie's birthday falls on the same day as King Charles' Coronation – May 6.
However, we have learnt that the Princess’ birthday will clash with King Charles’ Coronation rehearsals between May 2 and May 5, to be held in the ballroom of Buckingham Palace.
Sources tell OK! that due to the diary clash, Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 40, are set to cut their first practice session short to celebrate their daughter’s birthday.
“William and Kate are very aware that it’s Princess Charlotte’s birthday on May 2 and don’t want it to get buried in coronation hype,” a source said. “They have ensured that Charlotte’s birthday will be celebrated properly during coronation week.”
“Charlotte will be at school at Lambrook on that Tuesday so the plan is to collect her at the usual time and drive back to Windsor for a small party with her friends at Adelaide Cottage. It might even be a surprise party because staff have been told to keep it quiet.”
What's more, the source reveals that Lambrook, the school that all the Wales children attend, has an exeat day on Friday, May 5 which means boarders and day pupils can head off early for coronation weekend.
“The Wales family will head to London on Friday afternoon to prepare for coronation weekend in London. They are all very excited about it,” the source adds.
The royal insider was very keen to add that the King’s other grandchildren who celebrate their birthdays around the coronation celebrations will not miss out.
“Prince Louis has his birthday on April 23, but it doesn’t conflict with any coronation events so will be celebrated as usual. He’ll be turning 5 this year,” the source said.
OK! has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
The Royal Family are gearing up for King Charles' Coronation on 6 May, where he will officially be crowned King, after taking over the role as Monarch when his beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth, passed away in September 2022.
King Charles' wife, Queen Consort, Camilla, will be crowned Queen alongside him, in a history-making moment.
It was recently revealed that Prince Harry, King Charles' youngest son will be attending the Coronation alone, without his wife Meghan Markle, who is staying back in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The announcement came after weeks of speculation surrounding whether the royal couple, who are now permanently based in California, would make an appearance at the historic event.
Buckingham Palace shared a brief statement confirming the news on Wednesday 12 April.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
