William and Kate ‘won’t watch Harry & Meghan’ but ‘poised to respond robustly’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's hotly-anticipated Netflix documentary drops today, but two people that won't be tuning in are Harry's brother Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are said not to be intending to watch the first three episodes of Harry & Meghan, but the palace is ready to issue a "swift and robust" response to any unjust claims made in the documentary.
Senior royals and palace officials are said to be braced for the worst when the documentary comes out, after two bombshell trailers signalled that Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, will not be holding back in their accusations against the institution.
In one trailer, Harry accuses them of "planting stories" in the press, saying that life in the royal family was a "dirty game".
He can be heard saying: "There's a hierarchy of the family, you know, there's leaking, but there's also planting of stories. It's a dirty game."
In another clip, Meghan, who is often seen crying throughout the two trailers, could be heard saying: "I realised, they're never going to protect you," which appears to be referring to the Royal Family.
Despite the official royal stance being "never complain, never explain", the royal family are said to be intent on speaking out against any claims Harry and Meghan make that are deemed to be "unjust".
A source told The Mirror: "There's a real feeling in the camp that Harry and Meghan are making a lot of noise and there isn't much more to say.
"But preparations are being made for all outcomes, especially if there are unjust accusations being made."
However, it's believed that the royal family are unwilling to engage in a tit-for-tat battle over the series.
A source told The Sun: "If there are parts which are blatantly wrong, then it is only right that they are corrected.
"The trailers already have some glaring errors and misrepresentations, which doesn’t bode well for the full series. But the plan is to keep schtum and carry on.”
The royals are not thought to be intending on responding to any claims until the full series has been aired.
Three episodes of the six-part series will be aired on Netflix today, with three more coming out next Thursday, December 15.
There is a strong suggestion in the latest trailer that Harry and Meghan are blaming her treatment on race, as one ally can be heard saying: "It was a war against Meghan to suit other people’s agendas."
Another then says: "It’s about hatred, it’s about race."
Harry and Meghan's deal with Netflix is said to be worth around £88million, and the royals will be bracing themselves for more drama when Harry's tell-all book, titled Spare, is released on 10 January.
