Zara McDermott gutted after fans slate her ‘messy’ Christmas tree

Zara McDermott has defended her unique Christmas tree after fans dubbed it "messy" and "slanted".

The former Love Island star proudy showed off the fir, which was lovingly decorated with green and orange glittery baubles and festive leaves, on Instagram – but the reaction wasn't what she expected.

After being called out for her decorating skills, the 25-year-old shared one message from a follower that read: "Not a fan of this, feels like a Halloween tree, it's also slanted and looks a bit messy. Sorry love you."

Hurt, Zara responded: "No one likes my tree!" with three crying laughing emojis.

Zara went on to explain how she had loved the tree before the criticism flooded in.

She conceded: "Okay it's not the best tree in the world now I look at it but before I really liked it before you all started to be mean to her.

"Come on guys no need to slate her. She's got character!!!!!!!"

She continued: "And we have orange lights above our dining table so I thought orange leaves worked Lol.

"Thank god I'm not an interior designer hey."

Zara hasn't been having an easy time recently. Just a few days before the Christmas-tree drama she was admitted to hospital with "excruciating abdominal pain" due to a burst cyst.

Alongside a snap showing her lying in a hospital bed with tubes inserted into her arm, Zara wrote on Instagram: "Wow last night was so eventful!

"Sam had to rush me to A&E because I had excruciating pain in my abdomen – had a feeling it was a burst cyst on my ovary because I've had it before on my other side and it felt similar."

She later updated her fans and confirmed it was a burst cyst as she thanked everyone for their support.

She said: "Thanks so much for your messages guys!!!! They found blood in my abdomen which indicates it's a burst cyst for sure and nothing else.

"The good thing is that my ovary looks fine and isn't twisted."

She went on to praise the NHS, adding: "So lucky to have such an amazing NHS – they were so bloody brilliant and I'm going to have a relaxing weekend now," alongside three love heart emojis.

Zara was a contestant on Love Island in 2018, but her relationship with Adam Collard didn't last long outside the villa.

She is currently dating Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson.
