Alan Carrs life off screen from Adele friendship to reason for split from husband
Alan Carr has returned to our screens in the new series of Interior Design Masters but off screen he shares a close friendship with Adele and has gone through an amicable split with his husband.
The Chattyman returned to our screens for the fourth series of the BBC One show Interior Design Masters which sees ten aspiring interior designers put their skills and visions to the test.
With his quick wit and charming personality, Alan is instantly loved by viewers as contestants try to impress the head judge and former editor of Elle Decoration, Michelle Ogundehin.
In his personal life, Alan split from husband Paul Drayton in January 2022 after being together for 13 years and has reportedly leaned on close pal Adele for support.
Split from husband
The former couple announced the separation in a statement last year and said: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.
"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."
Alan later opened up about the split on ITV'S Lorraine and said: "Oh me and Paul, 14 years-" he said as Lorraine told him: "That's a long time." Alan joked: "Which in gay years, is 207 years!"
He continued: "I wrote the tour, and then our marriage broke down during Covid, because it was so stressful, everything … And then I was going on stage and I was just like, 'Well this doesn't make sense, this doesn't make sense.'
"So we're divorced now, he's excited about the future, I'm excited about the future. We're still always going to be friends because we've been through so much together."
The confirmation of their split came in the wake of Paul being given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for two years after he reversed a 4X4 into a police car before registering an alcohol test reading that was "off the scale".
The split also came after Paul posted a photo of himself with a black eye on Instagram with the caption “We had a row".
The story made headlines and Paul later clarified “Alan would not and has never hit me.
He added: “I’m feeling very fragile at the minute and would like to say that Alan would not and has never hit me. And I’m devastated that he has to deal with this today.”
It was claimed this was the 'final straw' for their relationship.
Alan and Adele
The global singer and Alan have been close friends since they met at the Brits Awards in 2008.
When Alan married Paul the singer opened up her home to the couple and insisted that she get ordained so she could officiate their wedding in her LA garden.
Speaking on The One Show, Alan had said: "We’ve known her for ages, and when we told her we were getting married she said, 'Can I please plan the whole day for you?'
"She did it all at her house. So, we got in there, and there is a grand piano with a man playing Ordinary People.
"Then she sang with our first dance, it was absolutely amazing. I can never repay her, she’s a one-off as we all know."
During the split from Paul last year Alan had been reportedly leaning on close pal Adele.
As he presents Interior Design Masters for the third time and picks up tips along the way Alan has previously admitted his old friend Adele doesn’t need his input on design.
Alan admits “Listen, she will have the best of the best, she won’t be coming for any advice from me,”
“I wouldn’t dare give her advice. I did buy her a doll once and it was really disgusting. I found it in a charity shop. Every time she threw it out, I’d get it out of the bin and place it back in her house!”
