Beauty mistakes that result in ‘patchy’ or ‘cakey’ makeup

Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to Nadia Fihema, Education Manager UK & Europe for Huda Beauty about the current makeup trends and some of the biggest makeup mistakes women make.

In terms of what’s top right now, Nadia said: “ Definitely has to be under painting that gives a smooth, sculpted but fresh and natural finish. But then also bold makeup is making a comeback, especially on the lips and eyes!”

As for makeup mistakes, the expert revealed: “Applying too much product; it’s key to layer small amounts of products to give both a flawless finish and longevity.”

For anyone concerned about makeup sitting in fine lines and wrinkles, or looking ‘caked-on’, Nadia shared her tips.

“First ensure your skin is exfoliated and hydrated! Skin prep is key to smooth makeup application.

“Your next step is applying all of your cream products first in very light layers, then you will apply your powders over the top but its super important to press/ tap them into the skin, especially if you have dry skin, if you don’t it could really highlight texture, wrinkles and dry skin making you look super cakey.

“I love using baking and setting powder it is micronized which means it is super fine so it always delivers a flawless finish. Finally, finish off with a hydrating setting spray and use that throughout the day to keep your makeup looking fresh!”

When it comes to making eyes pop and look larger, Nadia said: “There are several tips and tricks you can use to help open up the eyes.

“First lining the lower waterline with a white or a cream pencil, adding a stone shade or brighter shade of eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eyes and focusing deeper shades on the outer edges.

“Also I absolutely love a thin half liner starting from the centre of your eye and winging it out, I use a creamy kohl pencil because it literally lasts all day long!”

“Always tap or lightly press your products into your skin never drag them, tapping allows you to build everything up naturally and dragging can cake or pull off your makeup making it patchy!”
