Being eco-friendly is the new green flag guaranteed to get you a date

From recent photos to witty one-liners, there’s lots of advice out there on how to nab yourself a date online.

And as we approach cuffing season, singletons are swiping hard to settle down for the colder months.

But it turns out there’s a sure fire way to nab yourself a partner – by showing off your green credentials.

Eco-conscious Brits are finding it twice as easy to find a date than those who aren’t environmentally conscious.

More than 80% of the UK population want their date to make at least one eco-friendly commitment.

And, if you’re not doing your bit, prepare to give matches the ick.

Electric car subscription service Onto found that littering is the biggest turn-off in a potential partner, while leaving the lights on or wasting water may see the spark die.

Two-thirds of Brits also said they would prefer to pick up their date in an electric vehicle, in fact, 56% said they would swipe right if the dating profile featured a picture of an electric car.

Dating expert Hayley Quinn said: ‘Successful dating really is about becoming more you, rather than less you, than ever before: so, if you’re an eco-conscious dater, show those credentials with pride, to find your perfect match.’

So, it seems that being green is a green flag. Follow these simple tips and you’ll be inundated with options this cuffing season.

Use a green profile pic

A well thought-out profile picture is better than writing about your eco-conscious ways.

If sustainability is your thing, a well-placed photo of you at a food-market or a pre-loved shop will serve you well.

You could also be photographed with your electric car which seems to really get potential dates’ engines going.

Don’t be like everyone else

Look, everyone loves travel, good food and laughs with friends, so don’t make this the centrepiece of your dating app profile.

Avoid tedious sentences that list your hobbies, ‘I like tennis, rowing and running club,’ this will accidentally make you sound just like everyone else!

Instead, if you’re ‘an emphatic recycling sorter,’ ‘potential winner of MasterChef Vegan Edition,’ or simply, ‘likes mending things and looks pretty at home in a tool belt’, think about that witty one-liner, that’s crammed full of personality, to use on your profile instead. 

Ask people on dates you’d enjoy

To keep your dating motivation levels high it’s imperative that you go on dates that you’d enjoy – even if the date is a bust.

If your normal Saturday plans involve a farmer’s market, working on your allotment, or rustling up some yummy veggie food, invite your potential date along.

Yes, it’s a little riskier than simply saying, ‘How about drinks this Friday?’ But ultimately you want to attract the people who are most compatible with you: so don’t be afraid to become a little more marmite in stating your dating preferences.

Get creative

If your first few dates have gone well, think outside the box with your date planning.

Show your green credentials by getting bikes, walking, or using an electric car for your dates.
