Cardi B Surprises Her Old School With $100,000 Donation
Cardi B is known for her luxurious purchases (she’s got a Birkin collection, for instance), but she should also be known for her generous donations. Recently, the rapper gave back to her old middle school with a six-figure check.
According to TMZ, Cardi paid I.S. 232 a visit on Tuesday morning in New York’s Morris Heights. The musician attended the middle school from 6th to 8th grade. Her appearance was reportedly a complete surprise to staff and students.

Cardi spent time conversing with the student body. She reminisced on her favorite memories at the school and answered student questions.
But it was the end of her visit that was particularly eventful, as Cardi revealed she was donating $100,000 to support the school’s after-hours programs, including tutoring and the arts. TMZ notes that Cardi’s donation brought some of the school’s staff and students to tears.
The donation is a part of Cardi’s tour with Community Capacity Development, which works to confront challenges in marginalized communities, particularly with youth. She’s done a variety of charitable appearances this week.

Last week, she attended a back-to-school event with the non-profit group, where she directly spoke to youth involved in the organization’s music program.
“I’m not the one to tell people just follow your dreams because it’s not easy,” Cardi told the crowd. “You need money and resources, and you almost need a hookup — but you never know when you will find a hookup.”
The organization has been vocal about the impact Cardi’s support has had for their work.

“I think a lot of times young people are attracted to survival,” the non-profit’s founder K. Bain said. “When you don’t have employment opportunities, when you don’t have adequate resources in education, when you see nothing but closed doors, crime and violence becomes an option.
He continued, “Having someone like Cardi come back and say I want to be in human justice work, it’s a real inspiration.”
Cardi has been open about her experience growing up in an impoverished situation in Queens before skyrocketing to fame thanks to her music career.
