Disgruntled driver goes to extreme lengths to warn of a pothole

An angry resident took matters into their own hands to warn others about a massive pothole on the road – which kicked the council into action.
A deep-looking pothole on Murrow Lane in Wisbech St Mary, Cambridgeshire, was graffitied with yellow spray-paint in an attempt to warn other drivers to avoid it.
The graffiti first drew a ring around the hole, before warning drivers in huge capital letters: ‘Very big hole’ on both sides of the approach, Cambridge News reported.
After images of the graffiti made their way online, other disgruntled drivers joked someone could instead have planted a tree in the hole.
However, shortly after the photos circulated, another photo emerged showing council workers filling in the hole.
The person used yellow paint to write a message around the pothole, located in Wisbech St Mary, in Cambridgeshire
When the snaps were first posted online, one person on the group joked: ‘Here’s a novel way to warn of the increasing number of potholes in Fenland.’
One person commented: ‘Not much help in the dark.’
Another wrote: ‘Plant a tree in it. Good for the environment.’
A fourth quipped: ‘Apparently if you fill them in with concrete, the council will chase you down and give you an award.’
It comes after a police officer in Pentlow, Essex, told villagers that leaving potholes in the road is one of the best ways of tackling speeding drivers.
The Essex Police officer praised the benefits of holes in the road at the tiny village’s annual meeting.
Stunned villagers hit out at the police officer’s comments as they warned the potholes could cause accidents.
The plans were, however, backed by local councillors, who said any way of slowing down traffic would be ‘welcome’.

‘It was extraordinary,’ one local said. ‘The official police advice apparently is that potholes are a good thing, so leave craters in the road because they slow down drivers.
‘We were also advised to park our cars to form a chicane like you get on race-tracks as another way of reducing speeds.’
The police officer’s comments follow news that pothole related breakdowns have surged by almost a third over the previous year.
AA crews now attending 1,700 pothole related incidents a day.
In the March budget, chancellor Jeremy Hunt pledged an extra £200 million in funding to tackle England’s pothole problems – with a view to increasing the size of the pot from £500 million to £700 million.
