Sarah Ferguson appeared glued to her phone outside Venice airport this afternoon following a statement from Buckingham Palace that the Queen is ‘under medical supervision’.

Fergie’s ex-husband Prince Andrew and his siblings have travelled to Balmoral, Scotland, where the Queen, 96, is currently staying, after the Palace announced doctors were concerned for Her Majesty’s health.

After spending the last few days attending the 79th Venice International Film Festival, Fergie appeared serious as she looked at her phone following the announcement.

Sarah Ferguson, 62, was pictured checking her phone as she stood alongside her suitcases outside Venice Airport following news the Queen, her former mother-in-law, was ‘under medical supervision’ at Balmoral

Fergie, who shares daughters Princess Eugenie, 32, and Princess Beatrice, 34, with Prince Andrew, remains close to her ex-husband, whom she divorced in 1996.

She also speaks incredibly highly of the Queen, giving an insight into her admiration for the Monarch in an interview on the Tea with Twiggy podcast last year.

The 62-year-old told the podcast: ‘I think to myself that honestly, my mother-in-law has been more of a mother to me than my mother. [She’s] never faltered.’

Fergie added: ‘I absolutely admire the incredible way Her Majesty is so modern… and how flexible, and how understanding, and how forgiving and how generous.’

The Queen has suffered from mobility issues in recent times and was pictured using a cane on Tuesday as she welcomed the new prime minister, Liz Truss, to Balmoral to formally ask her to form a government

She added the Monarch was her ‘greatest mentor’ and continued to visit her even after splitting from Prince Andrew.

Earlier today Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the Queen was under medical supervision after doctors became concerned for her health.

The statement added Her Majesty was ‘comfortable’ and would remain at Balmoral.

Following the announcement Prince Charles and Camilla travelled to the estate in the Scottish Highlands, followed by Prince William.

The Queen’s younger children Prince Andrew and Prince Edward also travelled to Balmoral, while Princess Anne was already there.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are visiting the UK this week, pulled out of an appearance at the WellChild Awards in London this evening to also travel to Balmoral.

The 96-year-old monarch, who celebrated 70 years on the throne this year in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, has suffered with mobility problems.

In recent appearances she has been pictured walking with a cane and was pictured using the mobility aid on Tuesday, when new prime minister Liz Truss travelled to ‘kiss hands’ – a process in which the Monarch formally invites the new leader of the country to form a government.
