Friends save £200 at festival by injecting gin into juice carton
Full to the gin! Sneaky friends used syringes from Amazon to fill an unopened carton of cranberry juice with Gordon’s to save £200 on booze at a festival
- Sophie Taylor, 20, from Durham and her friends didn’t want to pay £8.50 for gins
- Bought bottle of Gordon’s Pink Gin, cranberry juice and syringes from Amazon
- Kubix festival in Sunderland had a strict policy on not bringing your own booze
- But the pals managed to sneak it in by injecting the carton with full bottle of gin
A group of friends saved £200 by sneaking alcohol into a festival – by injecting a litre of pink gin into a cranberry juice carton.
Sophie Taylor, 20, a support worker from Durham and her friends didn’t want to shell out £8.50 for a double pink gin and lemonade at Kubix Festival in Sunderland last Saturday.
After already spending £32.77 each for their festival tickets, the group of women came up with a genius but sneaky plan.
Purchasing two giant 50ml syringes from Amazon costing £5.99 the girls poked a hole in the side of a cranberry juice carton and emptied the contents.
Filling the syringes with Gordon’s pink gin, they transferred the alcohol into the empty cranberry juice carton.

A bit of DIY using a glue gun was involved to make the trick believable, as the friends snuck past security with 2 litres of gin hidden in plain sight
Sophie and her friends Becca Merrit, 24, and Katie Hobson, 25, walked past security with their disguised alcohol in plain sight in their tote bag.
The 20-year-old support worker reckons her and her friends ‘saved around £200’.
She said ‘I’d seen someone put vodka in a water bottle and seal it back up but I’m not a huge fan of vodka so I thought I’d do it with pink gin.
‘Then I thought that pink gin doesn’t really look similar to anything, so that gave me the idea of the cranberry juice as it was a covered carton.
‘The carton fit a full one litre bottle of pink gin in so that would last us all day as we were there from 12pm to 11pm.
‘The person who used the vodka in the water bottle had put it in with a syringe and used a glue gun to cover it up so we got the syringes and did the same with the carton.
‘We were very nervous, to be honest! We didn’t think we would get away with it, but the lengths we went to just to make sure it was still sealed and you couldn’t tell we had tampered it, now when I look back, I’m not that surprised we got away with it.
Misson complete. The cranberry juice was sealed back up so it didn’t look as if it had been tampered with
A sly top up – the girls, who reckon they saved £200 at the festival, enjoy a cup of ‘cranberry’ juice

‘When we first got through the checking point the security pulled us to the side to check our bags and our picnic basket.
‘The gin was in a bag with a blanket next to it so after the security had finished checking the picnic basket they glanced in the bag with the gin, but saw it was sealed and thought nothing of it.
‘Personally, I thought the drinks were overpriced. It was £22 for a bottle of wine and £6 for a pint.
‘The hack saved me and my friends around £200 so I’m pleased we thought of it. I’d definitely do it again.’
Sophie shared the video to TikTok on Monday writing: ‘The lengths we will go to not pay £8.50 for a gin.’
