Using the term ‘grandma’ as an adjective, doesn’t exactly feel like a compliment – especially when it comes to interiors.
Dark wood, net curtains, and doilies spring to mind.
But after a decade of clean lines and minimalism (think Mrs Hinch’s grey palette) – and not to mention all those pink and rose gold accessories – millennials are looking back to their childhoods for inspiration.
The grandmillennial trend channels the vintage prints and textures that remind us of our grandparents’ homes, along with more modern elements.
It’s about a cosy, vintage feel, with colours and contrasts that feel fresh and new.
Of course, this trend hasn’t just come from nowhere, and was actually first coined back in 2019, by interiors journalist Emma Bazilian, describing grandmilennials as those that have a love for ‘Laura Ashley prints, ruffles, embroidered linens.’

She suggested that the appeal of the aesthetic ‘lies in the fact that, for the stressed-out twenty and thirty-somethings of the world, that cosy chintz chair at your grandmother’s house represents a much-needed respite.’
We’ve also seen this look gracing the runways.
In the past, Gucci has shown collections featuring clashing patterns, pussy bows and long hemlines, and the fashion house is famous for it’s granny-esque headscarves.

And remember when Harry Styles wore that JW Anderson patchwork cardigan? Very granny chic.
So if you’re ready to take a step back from Ikea, we’ve got some interiors pieces that can add that grandmillennial touch into your home.
