He was further accepted by the Drama Centre of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art but was expelled again without obtaining a degree.

In 2000, Brand made his first significant stand-up gigs. That same year, he also started working as a video journalist for MTV but was later dismissed. He also acted in the 2011 remake of Arthur opposite Helen Mirren, who he had previously worked with in The Tempest.
