A woman has revealed how she purchased her first property without ever visiting it and is slowly transforming it into her dream home.

Alison Little, who grew up in Northern Ireland, bought the three-bedroom property in Wallasey, Merseyside, in 2021 – despite having never even been to the local area.

At the time, Alison – who works as an Account Manager – was living in Scotland and was looking for a change after breaking up with her partner.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, she explained how her ‘lightbulb moment’ came when her father told her of his plans to renovate a van he’d recently bought.

After this, the homeowner began searching for houses in the Liverpool area and fell in love with the Victorian features in her property.

She said: ‘I’d seen it online and I thought that’s for me. I didn’t actually view the property before buying it.

‘But it looked pretty well kept. There was a family living in it before.’

On top of this, Alison was also drawn to the ‘good size garden’ and decided to put an offer in without booking in for a visit.

The homeowner is now spending most of her evenings and weekends renovating her house on her own.

Although she planned to just tackle one area at a time, Alison admitted that she has ‘spiralled’ somewhat and has several home improvement projects on the go at once.

Since getting the keys at the end of 2021, Alison has renovated the outdated bathroom into a luxury space – consisting of a free-standing bath and gold shower.

Meanwhile, she also completed her bedroom – which has a new trendy fireplace and velvet headboard.

What’s more, Alison decided to put a stud wall up in her bedroom to separate it into two separate spaces again.

Currently, Alison is in the middle of re-doing her kitchen – which she hopes will be completed by September.

So far, she has ripped out the previous owner’s cabinets and appliances and added some stylish black aluminum doors.

Giving a rough timeline for the scale of the project, Alison added: ‘I would hope by the end of the year that its in a liveable state. I want a home that really reflects me and my personality.’

After completing on the house sale almost two years ago, Alison recently reflected on Instagram: ‘In 2021 I really said “f*** it” and bought a house sight unseen, in a place that I’ve never lived before.

‘I needed a project and I was really trusting my gut on this one. There was only about 8 weeks between deciding I was going to buy a fixer-upper by myself, to actually having a sale agreed.

‘What is it they say, go hard or go home? I went hard and bought a home.’

Although she admitted she hadn’t made ‘as much progress as I’d like’, Alison said: ‘Between getting to know a new area, starting a new job, fixing my wee broken heart, embarking on a full blown reno with zero DIY experience, and also trying to have some sort of social life, exercise and drink water, with the occasional existential crisis, I think I’m doing alright.

‘So while I don’t have any “afters” yet, I’ve been slowly chipping away and have lots and lots of “befores” and “durings”, and a few “what I hope the afters look like”.’
