‘I’m a cleaning guru but my home is not always clean and tidy – but that’s okay’

A mum was praised for showing the reality of a family home despite being known as a cleaning guru for the upkeep of the house.

Maria Hewick, from Hull, amassed 21,000 followers on Instagram where she shares cleaning tips on getting rid of grease and grime.

With fans commenting that it's always "satisfying" and "therapeautic" to watch Maria cleaning the family home, the 39-year-old mum-of-two admits she sometimes let things go on top of her.

"Let's normalise lived-in family homes – here's mine," she said in a video.

"My house is not always clean and tidy! I'm not always full of motivation and sometimes I do stop!

"But it's okay it happens! I will move forward, I will get back to myself and I'm not going to punish myself for it!

"We all have bad days, it's okay if we haven't got it altogether and it's okay not to feel okay."

Having to organise and keep clean of the house all the time, she gave herself a time-off and left the beds unmade.

The laundry basket was full and clothes can be found on the floor in some of the rooms.

"But don't worry about it. It is what it is!" Maria added.

"A family home should be lived in and not picture-perfect all the time.

"It's easy to get caught up scrolling through Instagram and see all these beautiful homes with not a thing out of place and it can make us feel a bit rubbish.

"So I think it's important to be honest about it so that people know they are not on their own."

Fans agreed with Maria, with one sharing: "True I can't stand all these perfect houses all the time .

"It's super hard to keep up with and has made my OCD worse and worse."

Another added: "It's good to relax if you don't feel like to do anything."
