‘It’s a curse being pretty – pals are jealous and people hate me for no reason’

A woman believes she's a victim of "pretty girl curse".

Shye Lee said there's a dark side to being attractive – and claims her friends, family and even co-workers are jealous of her.

Over the years, she says she's been excluded from a lot of social events and treated badly for no reason.

"You can be the nicest person to them but they are still going to be mean to you just because you're pretty," she said.

"Some people won't invite you around certain people, like their boyfriends, just because they literally think you're going to steal the man.

"I've always known that – I only care for people who truly care for me and the outside does not mean much.

"There is nothing in the world that I want more than genuine people around me."

Shye listed some known privileges of pretty girls, which include – free drinks, free entry at events, VIP entry, attracting a rich man or an athlete or a rapper.

But there are drawbacks too.

The 29-year-old noticed that pretty women are sometimes not taken seriously in the workplace.

She believes they're seen as "incapable of understanding" their work "by default".

As well as this, Shye has been catcalled by strangers in public.

While doing her groceries shopping recently, she death stared someone leering at her and was branded a "b*tch* as a result.

She recalled one of her friends being a "complete living nightmare" too.

"She just wants to be like me but she couldn't accomplish that and she just started hating me," the TikToker detailed.

"She started dressing up like me, doing makeup like me, trying to put my friends against me. I got tired of this and I need someone genuine in my life."

Her videos raised discussions online – and some women said the benefits of being pretty can be life-changing.

"Treated better, get more job opportunities, more likely to network and build connections, but also know how much worse unattractive people are treated," one wrote.

Another said being pretty "opens doors", while ugliness results in "having to work harder".
