John Farnham is receiving treatment in hospital for a respiratory infection, but the 73-year-old is comfortable and receiving “the very best care,” according to his wife, Jill Farnham.

“John continues his recovery following last year’s successful surgery,” Jill Farnham said in a statement on Friday afternoon.
“He’s always been a strong and determined person with everything he’s ever done and we are all so very proud of him. He is responding well to the specialist care he’s receiving.”
Farnham had major surgery in August last year to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth. The near 12-hour operation involved two processes – removing the tumour, followed by reconstructive surgery on Farnham’s jaw, part of which was excised during the first operation.
Gaynor Martin, widow of the late Glenn Wheatley, said last year that Farnham’s family was upbeat about receiving “the best news they can” after the initial surgery.
He is responding well to the specialist care he’s receiving.
“We have Jill to thank for forcing him to the doctors to get that lump checked out,” she told Today. “At one point, there were 26 surgeons working on him.”
Farnham was moved from intensive care early last September, to the general ward of a Melbourne hospital, when Jill Farnham said, “that in itself was terrific progress” and “each of these steps means things are moving in the right direction”.
Friday’s statement from the Farnham family said he had been “receiving ongoing treatment, care, and rehabilitation support over recent months from his medical team” and was comfortable.
“The family would like re-iterate their appreciation for all the medical staff that have attended to John over the past six months and for all the kind messages … from across Australia and the world,” the statement said.
