Kate Middleton sports meaningful brooch as part of stunning St Patrick’s Day outfit
To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, Kate Middleton and Prince William attended the annual Irish Guards St Patrick's Day parade at Mons Barracks for the first time since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales.
In keeping with tradition, Kate wore a full green ensemble to greet the guards and attend the parade, although this year she opted for a more sea-green shade rather than her usual bolder shades like emerald and forest green.
The Princess of Wales wore a seafoam green coat from one of her favourite brands, Catherine Walker, which featured a high, structured collar and belted waist, with tailored darts on the shoulders and covered buttons up the front. The coat had an almost military-inspired feel to it thanks to the structured cut and exaggerated shoulders, making it the perfect choice to attend the barracks in.

Kate added a gold shamrock to the left side of her coat, although this wasn’t just any old brooch. The golden shamrock actually belongs to the regiment, who allow the brooch to be loaned out and worn by royal women who are associated with them, such as Kate following her appointment as both Princess of Wales and newly instated Colonel of the Irish Guards.
As well as the meaningful golden brooch, Kate also wore a spectacular corsage of green foliage, known as a traditional shamrock spring, pinned to the front of her coat in honour of the Irish holiday. She was also spotted attaching a similar sprig to the collar of one of the guards’ Irish Wolfhound dogs that attended the parade.
To go with her beautifully tailored coat, the Princess wore a statement hat from Jane Taylor Millinery, which featured an elegant curved design with pleated sheer details. The whole look was completed with coordinating stiletto pumps from Emmy London, and her delicate diamond and emerald drop earrings.
Kate was seen laughing with the guards as she celebrated the holiday, her long glossy locks down and loosely curled, held back from her face by her hat as she avoided the rain.
Kate’s colour scheme was a carefully thought out and touching tribute to the uniform of the Irish Guards. The Guards’ tunic buttons are arranged in two groups of four and bear the Harp of Ireland, and have a shamrock affixed to the collar, whilst a blue plume is worn on the right side of their bearskins, all of which Kate’s outfit paid tribute to in some way.
The event is typically a favourite of the royal calendar, and of course, often contains a cursory pint of Guinness to celebrate the holiday.
