Kate Uptons Former Plush Tennis Court Estate Was Bought By Timothee Chalamet For $11 Million
American actor Timothee Chalamet has long led a bicoastal lifestyle, splitting time between Los Angeles and his native New York City. And now the Academy Award-nominated actor has finally put down some West Coast real estate roots — turns out Chalamet was the buyer who recently paid $11 million for the secluded home of model Kate Upton and her husband, Houston Astros baseball star Justin Verlander.
According to Dirt, Upton and Verlander put the house up for sale earlier this year, amid a firestorm of publicity. While the final hammer price is less than the original $11.7 million sticker, it’s still more than double the $5.3 million they paid only six years ago. The couple gave the property a mild renovation during their ownership, fully overhauling the kitchen but leaving most other rooms relatively unmodified, save for some new paint and new ceiling treatments.
Built in the 1970s and located deep in the mountains above Beverly Hills, the East Coast traditional-style home has a lengthy celebrity pedigree. Owned in the 1990s by Grammy-winning saxophonist Kenny G, who eventually sold the property to tennis star Pete Sampras, the estate was more recently owned by prolific Hollywood producer Jon Peters (“Caddyshack,” “Flashdance,” “Rain Man,” “Batman”).

Invisible from the street behind big gates, high walls and a very long driveway, the hillside home offers about 5,500 square feet. Uniformly white and bright throughout, with a multitude of big windows and French doors, the various living spaces include a living room with a massive fireplace, a formal dining room and an eat-in kitchen with its own breakfast nook. White oak floors flow into the family room, which offers a vaulted ceiling, and elsewhere lies a spacious lounge with a media center and a walk-in, climate-controlled wine storage room.
There are four bedrooms on the premises, including a master suite, two smaller “family” suites and a separate guest bedroom ideal for a live-in staff member. The upstairs master is bathed in calming neutral shades throughout, including in its spa-style bathroom and dual walk-in closets.
Outdoors, a plunge pool adjoins a raised spa and brick terrace. Also on the premises are rose gardens, a grassy lawn, manicured boxwoods and a full-size tennis court; during his ownership, Sampras reportedly used the court for daily practice. The 1.5-acre estate sits immediately next door to an even larger estate owned by actor Vin Diesel; other famous residents within walking distance include John Mayer, Cameron Diaz and Eva Longoria.
Widely regarded as one of the most successful and talented young actors of his generation, Chalamet first came to international recognition with a starring role in the 2017 coming-of-age film “Call Me By Your Name,” which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Since then, his fame has only heightened; recent starring roles have included “Dune” and “The French Dispatch.” Chalamet will portray Willy Wonka in a new origin film, and “Dune: Part 2” is scheduled for release next year.
For now, Chalamet continues to divide his time between Los Angeles and a rented Manhattan apartment. As for Upton and Verlander, they’ve moved to Florida, where last year they bought a $6 million waterfront mansion in Palm Beach County.
