Kylie Jenner reveals her eyebrows ‘fell off’ after bleaching them
Some trends just aren’t worth trying, as Kylie Jenner found out when she experimented with the bleached brows trend – and it made her eyebrows fall out.
The reality star revealed during aBeauty Secrets videoforVoguethat although thick brows used to be the centre point of her makeup routine, she had recently bleached her eyebrows for a campaign.
However, after leaving the bleach on for too long, a lot of her brow hairs had fallen out, leaving her with much thinner, sparse eyebrows.
During the video, Kylie admitted: “Brows used to be the focus of our look. We used to always do these thick brows… Now brows aren’t our main focus. I like natural, bushy brows, I don’t really fill them in as much.
“I just had to do this campaign shoot and they wanted bleach brows. So [her makeup artst] Ariel [Tejada], I think just left the bleach on for too long and my eyebrows fell off. So now I'm just trying to get them back.” she explained, before adding that it's all “okay because thin brows are in.”
In the video, Kylie is definitely rocking some much thinner brows than usual, and uses an Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wizz pencil,£18.40 here, to help her achieve a softer, more natural eyebrow look.
First using the spoolie end, Kylie brushes her eyebrow hairs upwards to create a natural fluffy shape, before using the pencil end to fill in the sparse areas and create definition.
Kylie uses short, feathery strokes that go against the natural direction of her hairs to create the illusion of additional hairs, and creates a more solid line above her brows and to sharpen up the tail end, before feathering some additional ‘hairs’ into the lighter front section. She then uses the spoolie again to brush the hairs into place and blend the pencil into her eyebrows for a softer finish.
To hold her fluffy brows in place, Kylie finishes by applying a coat of KOSAS Air Brow Clear Lifting Treatment Gel Clear,£20 here, as she brushes the gel throughout her finished eyebrows, revealing she’s a fan of the product because it’s “not too flaky”, adding: “I never thought I’d be the girl to really gel my eyebrows up like this and now I am.”
If you had been thinking about trying the bleached brow trend, it’s important to make sure you never leave the bleach on too long, as your brow hairs are much finer and shorter than the hair on your head, and the heat from it being so close to your skin will cause it to develop much quicker than when you’re touching up your roots or getting a balayage done.
It’s also advisable to use a bleach that’s been specially designed to be used on your face, with many people swearing by the Jolen Creme Bleach kit,£4.35 here, to help them lighten facial hair. Also, it goes without saying, make sure you don’t get it in your eyes!
