A mum who hosted an incredible Bluey-themed party for her son’s first birthday has hit back at trolls in a parenting group who said it was ‘too much’ for a baby.
Sabina Marriott, 28, a Melbourne wedding florist, told FEMAIL the party earlier in November took six months to plan and she did nearly everything herself.
The end result looked professionally done with an orange, yellow, blue and white backdrop complete with balloons, streamers and Bluey character cutouts.
But after sharing images of the colourful setup to a popular Facebook group, Sabina was met with comments from other parents claiming the huge party was a ‘waste of money’ because Leon ‘won’t remember it’.
‘The party wasn’t just to celebrate Leon’s birthday – it was for ourselves, our family, and the kids too – everyone loves Bluey,’ Sabina said.
‘It’s like people have forgotten we’ve just had two years of Covid where we couldn’t see our families – some of our relatives hadn’t even met him yet either.’

Sabina hit back at the online haters and told FEMAIL the event wasn’t for Leon, but also for the family and kids to celebrate their time together after two years of Covid
The clever mum said ’90 per cent was DIY’ and the other 10 per cent was outsourced from local shops and small businesses
Bluey is an animated Australian kids show about a six-year-old blue heeler dog and his adventures – but even adults have come to enjoy watching the adorable show.
Sabina and her husband had 70 guests attend the party, including children aged between one and five.
‘It was such a great feeling seeing the kid’s faces light up when they saw the setup,’ Sabina said.
Since she’s in the events industry, Sabina is ‘known’ to be the family’s ‘party planner’ but admitted she hadn’t hosted an event ‘in years’ and likely won’t host again for a while.
‘I didn’t have a baby shower because of Covid, so this party was really to celebrate everything in one,’ she said.
During the initial planning process Sabina brainstormed themes and ideas by creating mood boards and searching for inspiration on Pinterest.
She eventually chose a Bluey theme and used her creative flare to style the setup.
The mum said ’90 per cent was DIY’ and the other 10 per cent was outsourced from local shops and small businesses.
She made the balloon arrangement and streamers, the lollyboxes, labels, kids boxes, cake pops, sugar cookies, grazing table and little custom details.
The birthday cake, Bluey character cardboard cutouts, the light-up number one, Bluey mascot costumer and additional props were outsourced.
Sabina even hired farm animals for a petting zoo in their backyard, as well as a play area with a slide and ball pit.
Everything from the cake to the decorations and kids lolly boxes had been though of to fit perfectly with the theme

Sabina estimates the party cost roughly $5,000, with the Bluey backdrop alone costing $815 to hire.
She also made all the desserts herself, besides the birthday cake, and had some of the food catered for.
‘I really want to show that you don’t need to be rich or have hundreds of thousands to pull off something extravagant,’ Sabina said.

There was even signage welcoming guests to the party

Sabina decided to share images of the party to the Bluey mums Facebook group with the hope to inspire other mums what can be achieve with a little time and effort.
The post was liked more than 1500 times and received hundreds of comments from impressed mums.
‘This is absolutely amazing, and definitely by far the best one I’ve seen yet!! Happy birthday to your sweet boy,’ one mum wrote.
‘If you are not already an event organiser, you should be!’ another added, a third said: ‘Dang girl, are you a party planner? You’ve outdone yourself.’
Another said: I’m upset I didn’t get invited. Forget the kids. I’m throwing an adult Bluey themed party.’
