Reason why King Charles and Prince William did not attend King Constantine’s funeral

Royals from every European household attended the funeral of Constantine II, the former King of Greece, in Athens on Monday to pay their respects.

Many heads of state were in attendance at the funeral, including King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

Lady Gabriella Kingston, daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, attended the service at the Metropolitan Cathedral on behalf of the Prince of Wales, whilePrincess Annerepresented the British royal family.

Given their strong familial connections to the former Greek royal family – Constantine was Charles' second cousin and William's godfather – many royal watchers on social media questioned whyKing Charlesand Prince William did not visit Athens.

While Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace have not disclosed the reasons for their absence, it is customary for royals to send representatives at occasions like weddings and funerals.

Additionally, it's possible that their schedules conflicted with the funeral's date and the accompanying travel to and from Greece.

Following their Christmas break, the King and the Waleses both returned to their royal duties last week. The King paid a visit to the Aboyne and Mid Deeside Community Shed in Aberdeenshire last Thursday while he andQueen Consort Camillaare at their Scottish residence, Birkhall.

The Royals appeared to ignore any of the recent drama as they returned to work days after the release ofPrince Harry's explosive autobiography. The Duke of Sussex has claimed that his relationship with his father and older brother"couldn't be worse"and insisted that he "genuinely" wants them both "back in my life".

Talking toBryony Gordon for her Substack , Prince Harry said: "One of the themes across the interviews is: how can you say you want your brother and father back, surely writing a book is not the way of going about it? And my answer to that is: I’ve tried everything I can!

"It’s as if they don’t want reconciliation, because keeping us as the villains, and keeping the press focused on us, helps detract from everything else that’s going on within that family. That’s one part of it."

Prince Harry added: "I do genuinely want my father and my brother back in my life as opposed to what it is now, which is, it couldn’t be worse."

The Duke of Sussex released his long-awaited autobiographySparethis month, which contained a range of claims about his family members, including King Charles,Camilla, Prince William andKate Middleton.
